Does anybody here have any experience with the Suzuki drz400s dual sport? I'm thinking about selling my 450r for one of them next year to get around town and save on gas. I was thinking about trying to find a stock s for a good deal and eventually mod it to make it look like a real dirt bike since it looks like JUNK stock and I wouldn’t have the quad to ride off-road with. I’m 6'1, I’m wondering how the s seat height is, it seems really big but I haven’t gotten to sit on one in real life. I plan on that soon though

And what I would turn the stock drz400s into if I got one. From the stock s I would rip the whole rear tail section off and replace it with a low profile l.e.d. taillight/blinkers/license plate bracket. Then rip off the stock mirrors and get low profile bar mounted ones. I would also rip off the ugly black fork covers and replace them with seal cover type shock covers. I would ditch the stock rims and tires and get some road legal knobbies so I could do both trails and ride on the roads legally, and some black excel rims like the picture. eventually after that, add an exhaust and it'd be pretty much how I like it-like a real dirt bike

Another modified and plated (street legal) drz. I have to say it would be pretty cool seeing a bunch of street bikes riding down the road and then one of these in the bunch. It would take a lot of work to get that crappy looking stock bike into one of these, but the mods are all pretty basic replacement parts and not too expensive for the most part.

the tires are all different assortments of street legal knobbies. unlike quads, it seems alot harder trying to figure out what tire is which because they are so small and they all look similiar. i too am pretty new to the whole bike scene, the drz is the only bike ive actually started to study. the rims are made by excel.

i can look at those pics another hundred times. awsome bike. if i didnt have to commute on a highway i would get the crf.

the gansta-definitly a lame @$$ looking bike. at least with the drz you can give it some cosmetic changes. the klr is hopeless in looks but i bet it rips on the road. its all good though, looks dont matter to alot of people, im one of those guys who has to like looking at his bike to ride it. it usually turns out to be an expensive pet peeve

yeah man i got that pm, thanks for that. i forgot to pm you back. that definitly was a crazy motard but i think i want a dirt ready one. and im not in the market for one right now anyway. that husky is insane! the 400 should be fine for me, the lower the cc the lower the insurance rate!

i saw an xr650 pass my house today when the rain stopped and unfortunatly it made me want one even more.

Those are excellent bikes. about 300 to change the tires and some other things. Depends on if you want it to be a maily road bike, or a dirt bike. I just kept my wr a dirt bike and bought a cheap road bike. Next year I'll be purchasing a new harley, but still keeping the shadow.

Now since your talking used, xr650r's already titled are going for 2500 here in michigan. They already haul the mail, and have more then enough speed and power for on road use.

i did some looking around, tires didnt seem too bad, around 75-110 a peice. the tires/excel rims and exaust would be the most expensive stuff by a long shot, but after selling the stock drz rims/tires and exaust i would be able to make alittle of it back. the tires are pretty important because i would plan on riding it in the trails awhile before taking it onto the road to get used to it. i hear the stock trailwing or "deathwings" are HORRIBLE in trails so tires would be one of the first things i would get. the guys over at thumpertalk know a ton about the bike so they have a list of good dual sport tires that would work good on both street and trails.
