Oil changes

How often should i change the oil in my 86' R????

I change mine about every 5 or 6 hours (joy riding, no racing), the manual says 10 hrs. Lots of debates on oils, but I just use Valvoline 5w30 or 10w30 in mine.

How about every 6 months?? change right b4 i start racing in Spring. I ride about once a week. I stop riding when it starts to get hot, like now and i start racing a couple of times.

I change my oil every 2 races. I race harescrambles so its about every 4 -5 hours. I use the pro honda, 80-85w in my 250r and my brothers 450r.

its been awhile since I looked up the lubrication chart, but i think 75W -90 is equivalent to 10W-40 oil with the lubriaction package for clutch packs and bearings (parts also found in positrack rear ends)
Anyway I use Mobil 1 75W-140 change it about once every six months or so.

ok, but if i race do i change it like every 2 races or so?

I trail ride my quad about 2-3 a week, go to pratice on mx track about every two weeks and race about once a month. Part of the reason I run synthetics is because they are supposed to last longer. Depending on how rough you ride your quad (feathering clutch alot, dry shifting, power shifting, etc.) will vary how quickly your oil gets dirty. If you change your oil and it has very much silver then decrease the time between oil changes and if it looks clean maybe wait another month to change it next time. A magnet on the bottom of the oil bolt helps, but when racing they tend to fall off on big air landings.
