Ya, ATHENA has a 480 big bore.. it supposily makes the 450r the king of all 4-strokes.. I dunno but in a year or so Im gunna see some results of the 480 big bore and look into buyin one!!

just curious but is there anywhere other than the drag strip where you could use all that power ?
dont get me wrong, I love overkill.
Maybe the dunes could handle the extra horses.

well it would a blast for a serious trail rider or duner. but u couldnt race in a 450 class u would have to run in the open class ( at least for mx. idk about cross country). i bet u could easily pull the front wheels up in any gear provided that u can get some traction.

yah pretty much just the dunes... obviously for drags and shooting the hill, but its fun as well while duning...

a big bore kit alone does not add all that much power. It does help with the bottom end torque though.

I read that Matt Copely's 500r in atv sport too.. that sounds perty baddd... I would keep my engine stock unless I hear some people rave about those Athena 480..

ESR also makes a 480 kit that I've read did a great job. But from what I hear, it doesn't help a lot on bottom end. Most of the power increase goes to the top end.

Although it is more powerful all through the powerband, most of it is useless in the trails. JMO

If you have an ER, you might want to ask if your stock battery will be strong enough to fire the motor with a big bore/higher compression. I like my ER, the stock batteries are a little weak though.

when the 4 strokes come up on the cam it feels like a powerband, but I know what you mean.

DUDE! I know what you are talking about. There is one in my driveway!! I mean that most of the power from the ESR kit (from what I've heard) goes to the top end. Read and think before you respond!

the word powerband is usually associated with 2-strokes, not 4-strokes.

So sorry. When I read it in dirtwheels, they also referred to it as a powerband.

I seen a 450r with the ESR kit and ESR intake at Sand Mountain, NV. I believe it was also ported.

That thing was fast at the top end.
