I would go with somthing bigger than a .223 for deer. And the mini, is not the best choice for a hunting rifle. Its good for small game, and people, but its not a terribly effective choice for hunting. It WILL kill a deer, but I'd prefer a round that would do it a little cleaner/effectively.

I'd get a .243 if I wanted a deer rifle or the .17 if I wanted to bust squirrls and rabbits and such.

From AK's to MG-42's I've fired just about every make and model you can buy off the shelf, and a whole lot of full auto you cant buy.

I defintly agree with the .17 I have a fully fluted and matched barrel .17HMR and love it for target and small game, and I would also go with a 7mm. for large game like deer at a long range.

haha, very true. If you want something you can hunt deer with, don't go any lower than a .243. Personally, I would reccomend a 7mm, or a .270.

Conneticut has some fairly heavy deer and as stated, anything less then a .243 will have you wishing for more if shot placement isnt as good as you would like it too be.

The .17 is a far cry from a .22 but the ammo is more expensive. If plinking is your intention the .22 or a .223 would be best.

And being a guy, you will need a firearm (guns are on ships..lol) for all types of reasons so just buy all of them so your prepared for anything

whatever you do, don't buy anything that shoots a 7.62 X 39 round. i bought an AK a few months back, and have only been able to find 3 boxes of ammo for it. nobody has the ammo or knows where to get it. its all getting shipped overseas:grr:

I know its a little late, but I shot a 25-06. Remington 700 with a hart barrel on it. I have shot deer and antelope out to 400 yards. Hooah!!
