I want to do some mods on my airbox lid; for my Sparks X-6 and my twin filter set-up. What I need to know is where can I get some outerware type material to fit the modification or cut out I'm going to do. Does anyone make a modified replacement lid for the 400ex? I've seen some advertised in the back of Dirt Wheels. Please advise, Thanks

I don't know what you mean, but are you looking to get more air flow into it? If so just drill holes in the air box and that'll help out.

Look into the EHS Racing lid. Its a $50 kit that has a machined mount and you cut most of the lid out and bolt this in, the hole is covered with outerwares material.

Uni makes some filters that work well for air box lids. They come in a pack of six. You drill one inch round holes in the lid and then snap the platic UNI pieces in the holes. The plastic pieces hold foam filters that can be removed and washed. I think they are $6-$7 for a pack.

Do you ride in water? If not, just remove the lid all together and buy you some outerwears and clean it after every ride. I use shockwaves outerwear but the poormans version is a pair of panty hose. Call C&D Racing, they can hook you up.

So if you get the air box lid modded, can/should you close off the snorkel?

I was told yes. That way all your airflow will be coming through the (filtered) top. A spray can lid fits perfectly in the hole once you remove the snorkel, and looks factory with some effort. :D

haha im sure thats guys found an answer after 3 years ahah

Hey nothing wrong with looking it up. haha trust me I will continue to interject my worthless 2 cents whenever it is convenient ;)

And as for answering your question, I can't speak for the little Uni things, but I have the EHS lid and I recommend it to anyone who is running an open box setup already. After a ride in horrible dust I just pop the lid off and wash it. I haven't had to clean my airfilter since I installed the lid. I did wash the pre-filter on the airfilter a few times, but that for just to make sure.

You might be able to use a dry charger over your lid instead. I don't know of anyone running that. I'd be interested in the comparison between that and the EHS or K&N lids...

I installed a Insane Performance air box it removes the snorkel, moves bat, cylinoid and rectifre and all wires in the box. Lid is awesome keeping water out but not stopping airflow works great love it.
