I am looking for some opinions. I have a 99 400ex w w/b slip on, re jetted, k&n, douglas red labels and pro armour pro pegs. It's time for new ball joints, shocks, tires and a chain. If I do the ball joints I may as well do +2" a arms and shocks. All this stuff is going to cost about 1500-2000. I am debating should I sell the bike and just buy a new 450R? How will my bike handle compared to the 450r if I do the a arms, elkas etc? I made the mistake of riding my buddies lt450, man did I like the way it handled. Would the new and improved 400 with all the goodies handle that well?

a stock 450r isn't going to handle much better than your 400ex and definitely not as well as the LTR450.

I was debating the same thing 6 months ago. I went with the 450r since I got it for 6,000 OTD. This gave me enough savings to add the HRC and eventually a-arms. The one thing any 450 will give you is an easier time coming out of turns for big jumps.
