hey guys, yesterday we were riding and my 400 started cutting out real bad. it ran like the choke was on but it wasn't. i went to clean the air filter tonight and there was oil in the bottom of the air box. i was wondering what this meant, how big of a problem i might have,ect..

thanks in advance,
andy

Sounds like you over oiled your filter.

I always ring mine out and let it set in the sun so the excess oil drys.

If not that , i had a friend with a raptor that had like motor oil in box, came from crankcase breather i do believe... not really for sure, but know he had alot of work to do to fix it.. mighta had to rebuild, but im not really sure it was a while back... just an idea

if it was your engine oil it is probably gettin blow by from your rings being worn and causing it to push the oil out the vent, or it will do the same if overfilled.

did you just clean the air filter and re-oil it, or did the oil just show up? i would guess that the air filter was not just mainteneced, otherwise over oiling the filter would be the obvious i would think. i was just wondering.

umm.... oil won't dry. It isn't water based so it won't evaporate in the sun. U know (i hope) how hot boiling oil is, it would have to be that hot outside for the oil to evaporate.
