valve clearance

I was checking the clearance today, but the picture in the manual had the lobs of the cam facing towards the exhaust. When I opened up mine the lobs were facing towards the rear. how do i get the lobs to the front?

Push down on the kick start until it is at top dead center with the lobes tward the back
