Ok, well since i got a ton of good info out of the thread i started about speed, im gonna give this one a whirl also.

Im a heavier rider, 220lbs, and the most kind of riding i do is small track and yard riding with medium to larger home made jumps, and my main problem is that it feels like the quad is landing like a tank when i come down.

I know i should probably just buy a set of elkas or any other compareable shock, but i just cant afford that tag, and am looking for a cheeper solution to my problem.

Is there any less expensive upgrade to the stock shock loads? i was considering 450r shocks but wasnt sure that they would help me out any, do they make a large difference upon landing........

what are, if any, my options. Is there any way to just purchase a spring with a larger pound rating.... or any kind of helper springs i can put inline wiht my current ones.....

thanks

oh yea, i have a 2005 400ex.

If you are looking for the best bang for you buck i would recommend stock 450r shocks. I have seen several 400s using these shocks so i believe they just mount right up. Might have to file or do a lil grinding around the eye, but thats it. I have rode stock 450s and those shocks are a great upgrade to the stockers. I rode them on a mx track and trails, no elkas but very good for the money! Check out Ebay or the classified section on this site...

Ya I recommend getting 450R stock shocks, and having them sent to GT Thunder or some other place and getting them revalved for their weight... That'll help out alot riding, and with the wallet.

id go with 450r shocks, they are capable of adjusting a lot more.

I would not get 450r shocks, I ran 450r shocks on a +2 front end. I bought the shocks for $215 off ebay. They were ok but about 2 months later I bought a set of axis triple rate remote rezzy shocks for $310 off of ebay that were in near mint condition and valved for my weight and they handle like a dream. If I was you I would buy used shocks off of ebay and then get them revalved and serviced. It will only cost you around $100 more then 450r shocks and will be 1000 times better.
