Help! I have a brand new 06' Honda 250EX. It has about 100 miles on it. It has ran like clockwork until today. Here is a list of events up until this point.

-Yesterday, 4:00pm: Took out spark arrester to clean it, I reved the engine a couple of times then put it back in. It ran fine.

-Today, 9:30am: Went for a 40 minute ride. On the way back then engine just stalled mid-shift. I had to use the choke to get it started (I've never had to use it before)

-It died again when I was going up hill

-And again when I pulled over to let a guy pass

-And again when I slowed down.

-Then about 300 feet from my house it was sputering and then stalled.

I have not been able to get it started since. I checked the spark plug connection, the battery charge, all the fuses, and the idle screw. Yet no results. If I pull the choke out all the way I can get it to turnover 4 or 5 times and then it dies. Also the engine is not flooded. Can you help me?[I][B]

Are you out of gas or is your gas turned off?

Ya I just filled it up this morning and I even tried to start in with the reserve on.

Sticking float, maybe? Is there gas in the float bowl?

I would guess there should be at least an ounce of fuel in the float bowl. When you loosen the float bowl drain screw, does fuel flow out of the drain hose and continue to flow as long as the drain screw is open?

but since it's new the valves might not have enough clearence.

sorry posted mine the same time as you. I'll go try that and see since before I had cleared out all the fuel.

If I blow in the float bowl drain tube will that un-stick it?

If the float's needle valve was stuck than fuel would NOT flow. That's what I was trying to get at. Fuel should flow out continuously if the drain is opened.

So, it sounds like you've got gas in the carb. Have you pulled the plug to check it's condition and confirm that it's sparking?

Typically you need to check three things when you've got a running problem. Is it getting fuel? Is it getting air? Is it getting spark?

It gets fuel because I can get it to start (and run as long as the choke is on and you give it half throtle) it therefor also gets spark. When I unscrew the screw that is conected drirectly to the carb run-off tube or w/e it drips gas for about 5 or 6 seconds. Also I know it gets air (too much if anything) because it won't start unless the choke is on and the choke limits the air supply.

The float bowl drain hose drips fuel for 5-6 secs and then stops? It should continue to flow (more than a drip) as long as the drain screw is open.

ya If the fuel switch is in the on position and I unscrew the drain tube screw thing it kinda spews out for a second or two. then it drips for awile untill it slowly stops

That's your problem. It's starving for fuel.

You'll need to track down were the fuel flow obstruction is. From your description it sounds like some fuel is slowly making it's way into the float bowl but not flowing fully.

Could be a clogged petcock, kinked or clogged fuel line, or a sticking float bowl float.

****, I guess I'll just take out the whole carb and check every tube. Thanx

connected to the carb is the drain tube (on the bottom) a breather tube that goes above the carb and a green metal one. This is where the fuel goes right?

GOT IT!!! It was a cloged petcock, I screwed around with the fuel lines then tried to start it with the res. again and it broke up.
