I had a Wolverine for a few years. It will go anywhere but its heavy. A few weeks ago I got a 05 400ex and am in love. The problem is so is the girlfriend. So now I am selling the Wolverine today for $3k and am rolling that into a sporty quad for her.

Overall she drives motorcycle and can drive the 400ex too. She likes the way it handles. Basically she wants to do little wheelies off bumps and go over some bumps and get about 1' of air. Plenty for her and it keeps it exciting.

In the area we ride its tight woods. I never really get the 400ex out of 2nd gear. Plus she could care less about going fast. I am thinking the 250ex. Its redesigned, looks like the 400ex, and the reverse setup is actually convenient to use.

The 250ex should wheelie in 1st and 2nd off bumps pretty easy right?

the 300ex will be a better bike for her. it will keep up wiyht you a little better than the 250ex.

the 300ex is a manual clutch with chain drive...the 250ex is an auto clutch with shaft drive...if you are buying brand new, the 250e xhas the sport clutch that can be used like a manual shift

if she is ok riding he 400ex, and likes it, then the 300ex would be a better fit for her. sportier, faster, better handling...it was built to play

the 250ex is just a modified recon...a utility machine witha few gearing and suspension changes

I say let her sit on all of them and see which one she feels most comfortable on. That's what is important. If she likes what she is riding, she will be more proned to want to ride it. :)

The 250X/300EX is a great ATV, and it will fit her needs well I'm sure. I wife really liked my old 250X. She also likes the 400EX as well.
