I know the 450r shocks sit a little higher or something...so with the stock a-arms on my 400, will the 450r shocks be to hard...or something, will it feel weird? stiff at all? please let me know, i basically just bought some...thanks alot!!

Mine sit just fine! I think they actually sit a hair lower, I love em. I just had to soften the settings quite a bit. Just make sure you dont grind them to make them fit. They bolt right up if you do it right.

From my understanding, 450R shocks are longer than 400EX shocks, so the front end will sit a little higher than stock. Depending on what year 450R shocks you get, and your weight, they may or may not be an improvement. Honda is known for valving their shocks for really heavy riders, hence a very stiff ride for anyone weighing less than ~220lbs. According to some friends with 400's and 450's, the 450R shocks are even stiffer than the 400EX shocks, especially ones off of an '06. If you're going to do it, make sure you find shocks off of an '04-05 R.

I had 05 R shocks with plus two aarms and it was really stiff and it made the bike sit higher. If you're planning on getting R shocks you'll definentely want them revalved/sprung.

well... it appears that most of the ones who actully have them are ok and seem to do well..

those that dont have them, seem to be giving advice to rebuild what you buy or save your pennies for aftermarkets..

in a budget pinch id definitely buy a set, or perhaps even a set of KFX takeoff's as the spring is effectively a dual rate..

I have had them on my 400EX with +2 a-arms and adjusted the preload ring all the way to the top=soft and they felt and performed great, this also helps bring the ride height back down. I also have a set of rebuilt, tripple rate, zps 450R shocks set up for my 400EX and the initial felling was that the stock 450R shocks fetl better, but I am still adjusting the tripple rates. You do have to grind a little off of the top of the shocks in 2 place to make them fit and clear the frame mount when they are compressed. As far as weight goes, mine are from a 05 and feel good and I weigh about 160 with gear. I have heard the 06 450R shocks are stiffer. A friend of mine who is an agressive mx rider rode my 4-wheeler and was really suprised in how they performed. I never did try them on stock a-arms, so I have nothing to report on that. I hope this info helps and pm me if you have any other questions.

I put them on my 02 400ex. They bolted right up for me I just had to mount the top side first then the bottom. They did make it sit higher so I redrilled the the lower mounts 1.25" lower on the lower a-arms. I wouldn't normally recommend redrilling but it worked for me and I hate my a arms anyway (full flight +2+1). Please don't flame me as this a low budget rebuild of a wrecked quad ($2100 invested to date)They were not to stiff for me but I'm 230.
