can't decide, 05 or 06

bad news...
well my garage caught fire, my 400ex is now a melted piece scrap metal.
good news
now i have an excuse to buy a 450r
i've seen alot of good deals on the 05 models. not sure if i'd like the kick starting though. are the 06 models better other then the e-start. i dont race so getting the bike started fast isnt a issue.
the issue i see with kick start is stalling on the side of a steep dune and trying to kick it.

Owning both, I can say that the 06 is a superior quads in most aspects. The bikes are entirely different other than things like the handlebars, rims, tires, ect. The 06 has a much more potent engine especially, which is always a good thing. My bone stock 06 450r was right behind my piped and cammed 05 and had no problem doing so. Both are very nice, and will please you either way. If you can get the 06, it is a better buy, but if not, you will love the 05.:D

the 06 has alot of improvements
but the 05 is still a good quad.
if you get the 06 make them throw in the hrc kit. It is insane.
either will make you wonder how you ever got around on the
400ex (not that the 400 is bad, its just that the 450 is IT)

Go for the '06. The '05 is a great bike too, but the add-ons you would need to do to it to keep up with the stock '06 without the HRC kit is crazy. The '06 is the way to go. IMO

IMO if its a money issue ide just go with the better deal... the both are good quads.. the 06 450r is just faster... There bothe HONDA so just pick one... ide rather have kickstart... i hate electric... i cant depend on it i feel scared!!

turn the idle up about a 1/4 turn and add the hrc kit and the electric start is the only way to run.
this is the first e-start I have ever had and I am spoiled now,
its too easy, I ride with my kids from time to time and its nice to put on shorts and flip flops and slow cruise the trails, its just relaxing. this 06 450r is the best, I can putt around with the kids
or turn it on and burn up the drag strip or jump it a country mile.

If you can swing it get the 06 hrc and you wont be sorry.

06 e-start in my opinion, each version is great (06er, 06r, 05r) the e-start on the 06s is definately way too chewed up IMO...mine is perfect wouldnt trade it for anything...didnt even turn up the idle up...coming from a 400ex myself, i prefer e start and the e start on the 450r is just as good as it was on my ex

I was trying to make this very same decision. I think I am sold on a black 06 kicker. There is a dealer in my area selling them for 5599 out the door. I think that is a sick deal so I'm gonna jump all over it.

I got an 05 with hrc cam, drd slip on, K&N filter and i absolutely love it! I havent ridden an 06 yet but for the difference in price here, i dont think the 06 could be that much better to make me wanna pay that much more :confused: I do love my 05 though. I dont think you could go wrong either way though. 06 or 05

lazer, it may come as a suprise but the stock 06 will be right beside you in a 300' drag and if they have the hrc on the 06
your going to see the tail light. (given both are good riders)
its more than just the motor though.
better suspension--longer swing arm--frc carb--more compression
from 10.5:1 to 12:1--regeared transmission--better linkage ration
(turns better)--bigger air filter (alot bigger)--new exhaust--better
factory porting on head--e start--stronger hubs--13toothsprocket (was 14 tooth)
there are more im forgetting.
and the hrc kit for 06 is alot more bang for the buck.
hrc=
carb jets/ better needle/ rev mod (+1,000 rpm)/ exhaust end cap and larger diameter head pipe.
the 05 is a good quad and the 06 is a great one.

Where are you?! Im going to be buying one of these soon and theres no way I will be able to get my dealer that low even tho I'm paying cash and just bought a 400EX from them a month ago.

If that really is a black 06 kicker for under 6k OTD I'd drive 3 states for that price!

i have done several dyno runs with the 05s and the 06s, the electric start versions are not building quite the horepower that the 05s are with the same stuff. now the kick versions are just a little bit better on the dyno charts. the electic starts are more difficult to start after they have been modded, they start cold the same, but they are harder after they have warmed up. to solve this you need to turn the idle up to around 2500-2800 rpms. the only reason for the difference on the electric bikes is that there is just more pull for the voltage stuff, that is drags on the motor and doesnt let it spin as hard, so i would deffinately get the kick version.
