My cousin has a LT250r and the engine stuck on him. I took it apart today to find that the piston broke and shot pieces of it all throughout the engine. And it is going to need a whole new crank assembly because the lower rod bearing are out of it.

My question is, since the piston broke and shot pieces of it into the dome and plastered them into the case can it be fixed by a good engine shop or is he going to have to junk the engine and buy another?

A good engine shop can fix it, but it might be expensive. A typical full rebuild, if you have to replace internal components and cases, can easily run $1500 or more.

You might be better off buying a new engine. If I were you, I'd start your search there, and find a good complete engine. That way, if yours CAN be fixed, you can usually unload the spare engine for nearly the same price you paid.
