ok heres my prob my buddys got an 06 450r and he just put in the hrc kit with cam, header, jets and all that. it is really had to start its really cold blooded and it dont like to idal at all even with the idal screw all the way up. i have an 400ex and i know i had the same prob with it and the way i know u fit it was u go from an 38 pilot to a 42 and that fixs it is that the same case with this prob. if so what size pilot do i go to.

from what Ive read you should be able to just turn up the idle you prob sounds wierd. I would check air /idle mixture, it sounds lean.

the idle is maxed out and the air fuel is at 2 1/2 turns out

What do you mean by "the idle is maxed out"?

decompression lever. Before you start messing with the carb double check your decompression clearence.

I did an 06 with a hc2 and it was hard to start and wouldnt idle.

It took a few tries to get it perfect.
You can do a compression test to see if its correct. I dont know what it should be for an 06er. But a 04 is 75-85 psi.

Do a search on this subject and you will find a to of info.

ya ur right its all the way up. i think the compression is good its a brand new bike with 1 ride on it. like i said before i think i should go with a bigger piolt thats what they do with the 400exs they got the same prob because hondas are cold blooded when cold from all mine iv had. so what do u guys think should i go with a bigger piolt or not.

After the HRC cam was put in did he adjust the valves properly?

I didnt say check your compression to see if the motor is good.

The decompression sysyem opens your exhaust valve slightly at cranking rpm. If you set the decompression clearence to big it wont open the valves long enough and will make it real hard to start and iy wont idle for more than a few seconds.

So you put the cam in what did you set the valves at? And also what is the clearence on the decompression arm?

I would run a 48 or 50 pilot with the hrc kit.

You say that hondas are cold blooded. My 450r stone cold 25deg outside, choke on 1 or 2 kicks it starts, warm up for about a min than its all set.

Just trying to help
