View Full Version : how do i chang the back brake pad's on my 04 z400?? help

hi i took the old won's out and i went to put the new ones in and they would not fit around th rotor i think i have to loosen the allen key one but it wont come out and i was just weondering if i had too or not?

I assume you have the caliper off? If so push the cyclinder back in the caliper as far as you can with your hands, and try it again. If it still wont fit you may need to loosen the stop screw for your parking brake if its for the rear. Just loosen the nut and back the bolt off a bit untill the caliper will fit over the rotor with the new pads. Then tighten the parking brake bolt back (it dosent go tight, you will tell if its too tight or loose because the brakes will either rub or the park brake wont work) and tighten the jam nut. Then reinstall the caliper. Any firther questions PM me.

what he said but by any means do NOT hit the cylinder with a hammer or wrench. use plyers, vice grips, channel locks, anything but hitting it. it could possibile get side ways and seize up.
