400ex axle on a 300ex?

will a 400 axle fit on a 300? and will everything mount up right? i was wonderin cuz my friend bent his axle today and i was thinkin that if he didnt get a new one or something, if he could use my spare axle.

thanks, but may i ask what makes it not work? is it too big around or is the splines for the rear brake different? or is there something else? thanks again
