Help me out guys. My 440 just got broke in. Head is all stock components except for a stage 2 Hot Cam. Ticks to beat hell at Idle and as you increase RPM as well. Today the valve lash clearance was checked and is correct. It didnt start doing this until nearly the end of the the first tank of 110 oct. Have been told that it is ok to race it like this. I dunno? Is having stock head components with the new stage 2 cam gonna make this noise, Or am I missing something.

after market cams make the 400ex tick...i once was told, that someone heard a ticking 400ex and they decided to turn down the race challenge :)

mine ticks pretty bad also, checked and recheck valve lashing etc.....nothing works...i've just started to see it as ticking = power :)

nice bike by the way:macho

Mine has a nice little tick to the motor since it was bored and stage 2 cam installed. I had thought by what i've heard on this forum that it was normal.

I will have to agree w/ the above & check your cam chain :) Mine was ticking to beat crazy too & we thought it was the cam but it ended up spitting the cam chain a few weeks ago!! That would be the 1st thing I would check now!!
Good Luck

You said the valve lash is correct, what did you set it to?

they do make the valves open further with the bigger cam lobes, so i guess it's possible if everything's not just right. i think your engine would either not run or run terrible if that happened....
