good street bike

im looking at some street bikes to get me around this summer to save money on gas i was looking at some ninja or gsxr 750 what do you think would be a good bike for me im 5'10 160lbs and have riden a harley

I like the kawi 1200 but the R1, any thing with some colour and alot of crome but a r6 or cbr 600 might be better if its for your first bike

I hear that mountain bikes get EXCELLENT gas mileage.

All of those bikes will be slow compared to your amazing lineup of fourwheelers. You should probably just jump straight on a busa.

i wouldnt sugest any bike over 500cc's for your first bike. so many kids die on high powered crotch rockets. many motorcyclist will tell you to get ninja 500 for your first bike. learn how to ride and the way of the road then get a bigger bike.

any of the 600's are good bikes. any of the older 600's are good bikes. the jap sport bikes are in general very reliable. but you need to take in the fact that tires dont last, and oil is expensive. also, 40k on a bike is quite a few miles. my tires typically last less than 5000 miles and it costs me about 300 for new fronts and rears, and the oil i use costs over 60 bucks for 2.5 gallons, good enough for a about 4 oil changes, but the filters cost about 8-10 bucks. you can save money with a bike over time, but the initial purchase is quite a bit so i dont see it as worth it unless you plan to keep her around for a bit and do some pleasure riding. dont get me wrong, i definately save gas money riding my bike from work occasionally, considering i get a about 300 miles on my truck for 60 bucks worth of gas, vs about 200 miles for about 10 bucks of gas with my gsxr 750.

Do yourself a favor and don't get anything bigger than a 600. They will be plenty powerful and can even be a handful. I have an F4i and its a great bike, any 600 will rule. But don't get anything bigger, these bikes make 3x more power than any quad, two different animals.

If you want to go for econamy, it's hard to recommend a sport bike because (as mentioned), the maintenance isn't the cheapest.

Don't get me wrong, they are very reliable for the most part, but small things can and will wear out over time. Tires, brakes, sprockets, chains, and then general stuff like oil changes and other routine maintenance. Parts for them are generally fairly expensive, and unless you do the work yourself (which I would recommend for most jobs), paying the dealer for servicing will cost a lot. $45 or so just to change one tire for example.

Cars can cost an arm and a leg too if you are unlucky, but generally they dont' require as much maintenance as a bike (unless you are talking a car with 130,000 miles on it or something like that).

Getting a more tame bike might save you some cash on some wear and tear parts like tires and things like that.

With that said....bikes are a ton of fun and you'll probaby be happy with whatever you get. I love my gixxer 750....I sold my cbr 929 with plans on getting a gixxer 1000, but I got a good deal on the 750 and was very impressed with it's performance. I'd like a 1000 if the right deal comes along, but until then the 750 is plenty to keep me happy.
