Danville, VA - After a short three week break, the ATVA National Motocross racing has resumed for round six of the 14 round series at Birch Creek Motorsports in Danville, VA. The weekend’s festivities were kicked off on Thursday evening with an open house at Triangle Cycles in downtown Danville, VA. The event attracted hundreds of visitors to the dealership to check out the vendors and have an opportunity to meet and greet with some of the fastest ATV motocross racers as John Natalie Jr, Keith Little, Doug Gust, Jeremiah Jones, and Michelle Reiser were all on hand to sign autographs.

There were plenty of kids seeking autographs from their favorite riders.

Admin
04-29-2006, 06:34 AM
Also, in attendance was Country Music Station 103.3 WAKG providing a live audio feed from the event, which provided a chance for the top Pros like John Natalie Jr to inform the listeners about ATV Racing and why they should be headed out to the track this weekend.

WAKG and Triangle Cycle put together some great prizes to give away including free gear, concert tickets, discount tickets, and various other prizes, which meant almost everyone left the event with something to take home, so if you missed this year's event, you will want to make sure you arrive in Danville early next year because this was on the best open house events yet this year.

Jeremiah Jones brought out his whole family including his newborn son, Jeremiah Nathaniel Jones, who is now 4 months old. Jeremiah was on fire at Budds Creek as he appears to finally have the new Suzuki LT-R450 dialed in, which should make for some exciting racing this weekend if his luck continues.

Many riders arrived Thursday night and Friday morning for a chance to practice before the racing action begins on Saturday, and the Birch Creek Motorsports crew have been busy of the winter grooming the track and creating plenty of new parking spaces, which provided plenty of level parking for the racers.

The track at Birch Creek was well received by the racers as I heard several riders saying how much they like the Birch Creek track.

Donald Lysinger was joined for the last time this season with his wife as she will be staying home until they welcome their first child to the family in just about 8 weeks.

Admin

Lysinger hasn’t raced since his scare at Gatorback, which left him temporarily paralyzed, but he just couldn’t stay off the track this weekend as he broke out his HB Racing Yamaha YFZ450 for practice, and he didn’t look a bit rusty. He still won’t be racing this weekend, but he figured as much as it cost him to drive to the races, he should atleast get in a few laps for fun, which was great to see.

Another Pro Racer back in action is Jeremy Lawson. He skipped Budds Creek to let his body recover from a crash, but he is back and feeling great.

Josh Creamer had a close call at Budds Creek when he flipped down the hill off the start of the Pro Moto, which he luckily was able to walk away without any injuries. He has spent the past three weeks training hard up North in Connecticut in hopes of coming out strong this weekend, and he is even sporting a new set of K&K Racing Graphics on his Honda this weekend.

Privateer’s Joe Haavisto and Matt White have both been on fire this year with Haavisto running consistently near the front all season in the Pro Class, which has caught many other riders’ off guard. Matt White has also been on a mission in the Pro and Pro AM Classes this year as he has been gaining plenty of seat time in his efforts of moving up through the ranks in the Pro Class.

#19 Lost Creek Cycle's Jason Dunkelberger made the switch from the YFZ450 to he LT-R450 at the Gatorback, and he has been working on dialing his new ride the past few races, and the three week break provided him the extra time he needed to get in some more seat time on his new ride as he is looking to move back into the top 10 in points.

Admin
04-29-2006, 07:27 AM
More and more Suzuki LT-R450 machines are showing up at the track, and Thomas Hager has finally made the transition from his Suzuki LTZ400 to the LT-R450 this weekend as he is competing in both the Pro AM Classes and is currently in the top 10 in both, and he should do even better on his new race ready LT-R450

Of all the obstacles on the track this weekend, the uphill triple has gained more attention than any other with the huge amount of air the top riders are receiving from sailing over it 75+ foot span.

During Pro Practive, Kory Ellis, Chad Wienen , and Pat Brown sailed over the leap side by side

I have uploaded the Photo Gallery from Friday's Practice, and I will be posting more coverage photos tomorrow morning from Saturday's racing action.

I would post more tonight, but I am feeling rough from a bad cold that has been moving a little slower this weekend from congestion and a sore throat.

I did get a chance to take plane ride tonight for some aerial photos of Birch Creek.

Man I thought that it was Jones, Gust, Wimmer too. I guess that Wimmer heard about the protest right before he got back to his trailer because he didn't seem too happy when I went up to him. I really enjoyed the day though, it was my first time ever going to a national. I was supposed to go last year but I ended up not being able to. Oh and I saw one of the guys from here taking pictures and cruising around on an xr70. Pretty fun day, even though I got sun burnt.

According to the results posted Wimmer took 3rd and 7th and Gust took 5th and 5th.

That equals to 10 for each rider...But Gust got 5th on the Main which COUNTS more.

Wow....that surprises me.......that Pro's would do that.....that's another peeve of mine - riders who still race through a yellow flag. If you have ever been the one down on the flag, with riders still flying by you....you'd think you'd have more respect for that flag.....plus, I have been in several races where I have slowed down for the flag, and the riders behind me don't........and they make up all that ground just because I am doing what I am supposed to do, and they choose not to.....

Maybe the rider was off the track and Byrd saw that and figured the flag was going to go down just after he rolled the triple or something, who knows.

There was no rider down on the track and the Pro's do no better. There is way more to this than jumping on a yellow. ;)

From what I understand the yellow flag that was out was for Lawson that was pulled OFF the track all the way at the end of the holeshot right before you make the left. It was about 300 yards away from the flag. There was no rider down on the track.
