You will probably need to rejet, when I did I bought a dynojet kit. It comes will all the jets a new needle and plenty of instructions. Good Luck! And welcome to the site.

Well unfortunatly there isn't alot of parts out yet for the 06' I think i might wait till i get stateside and look some more.I also didn't really want to rejet right away.but ,I've been looking at the HMF Balance carbon fiber and I know I'll have to rejet with a full.

Not sure, The site I order from has 99 to 05 then 06. the part #'s are different. As far as I see from hondas site and exploded pictures is that there are just a lot of little changes. It would help alot to know if they are the same mecanically

this will help you decide what jets you will need. oh and i would rejet right away. you might get away with putting around your back yard or something, but you will be running lean enough to damage your motor if you go too long. http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=221872

Sorry messed up it's 99 to 04 in parts but, i'm not sure about 05 to 06.And i'm not really worried about jetting right away cuz i can't decide on an exhaust! read the thread here about exhausts and there are some really good comments in there. I am leaning toward the HMF balance more and more. I'm not sure. I got 2 months till I'm out of here so Iguess I have plenty of time. This is getting on the wifes nerves though cuz, every pay( thats every 2 weeks) I spend a couple hundred in parts. this is what happens here left to my own devices and a bunch of Quad magazines!Plus 20 or so of the guys here ride so it's pretty much all we talk about.

you will like your hmf ballance slip on. thats what i have and my bike has huge low end power. before the piston and cam.

This what i decided on: HMF balance pro slip on aluminum. Basically cuz the price is right.Wife cut me off on spending till next pay check so I must wait. Now who can suggest a good jet kit? I was thinking Dyno jet. Also anybody know how loud the balance is?

i have an 05 400.i used the dynojet kit for mine.on the 05/06 400s the needle isnt adjustable.the dynojet kit comes with an adjustable needle.but you can also go to the hondadealer and buy a couple jets and a needle for the04-older 400ex.would be alot cheaper than ajet kit.
