I have a 400ex sitting in my garage right now, dropped 2 valves, pretty much destroyed most of the motor. I managed to find a used motor for it but need a cylinder, the cylinder off the old motor is a 440 .. it is in ok shape, a few scratches, I'm wondering if I can bore the 440 sleeve .01 over just to be safe.. I checked but I don't think anyone makes an oversized piston for it.. whats up with that?

If your current piston is 89mm then it's actually 435cc of displacement--even though everyone calls the 89mm piston a 440. JE has a new piston (listed as a new item in their 06' catalog) that is 89.5mm which is an actual 440. Maybe that's what you need [shrug]. Only comes in 12:1 compression though.
