New chain

i need a new chain on my 400ex. i will be buying new sprokets as well. my gearing will be 14/38... how long of a chain is required?
do i buy a longer one and cut it down.... and is an oring chain better then a non o ring? what about the x ring, what will last longest..

o-ring vs x-ring vs no-ring depends on what kind of conditions you ride in.

For trail, XC, MX, anyhting that can get muddy.. an x-ring is the best. (o-ring works jsut fine as well and it's cheaper).

For sand dunes, a lot of people run a ringless chain and 3in1 lube. Less sand gets in the joints.

But, for your all around standard rider, I'd go with an o-ring style. If you're a racer look into the x-ring.

mostly sand... a little trail ridding

get the oring mayne but i got a did Xring chain from rockymountain for $65 shipped with a $100 order so you may want to look into that
