How do you stop stomach cramps when running?

Yeah...and until you get in good running shape, those cramps won't stop. Just keep working through them...they will eventually go away.

Don't know if this applies, but supposedly eating a banana, which is high in potassium, helps cramps.

Well today at gym before we started i drank alot of water then i ran a mile in 7:56 mins which i was suprised because the last time i ran it was at 8:36. After school i drank a 16 oz of graderade and ate a banana and i ran a mile and didnt get a cramp till like 1/2 of the mile.
Thanks for your help guys.

Putting your hands over your head after running helps open your airway so you can breathe better. The coach used to have us to it in baseball after running sprints for a while.

DAMN, in 7th grade i had to be able to do the mile in 6:00 :eek2: anyways, if the cramps are at the top portion of your stomach, its not your stomach. the intercostal muscles (the muscles inbetween your ribs) actually move while running, because of your lungs moving. all this movement makes them sore. when you stop activity, they calm down and the pain goes away. BTW, putting your hands on your head afterwards just helps airflow because you stand straight up when you do this. really, putting your hands on the top of your head does not help your lungs in anyway. this is just some stuff stuff we've learnd this year. if any of it seems wrong, someone please correct me.

Try breathing in through your nose instead of gasping for air through your mouth, that always helps for me... Helps me run alot better, and not be as tired at the end.
