alright i know this questions probably been asked but i couldnt do a search cuz of the 4 letter minimum...anyways im going to do my first oil change this weekend...i plan on running a honda oil filter from the dealer but im unsure about what oil to use...i do have 1 litre of gn4 here at the moment, so i just wanted to know what oil to use in each side (trans & engine) and possibly which side should i use my gn4 up in?

thanks

use the moly oil on the engine side and the non moly oil on the gear side. the reason you use the moly-based in the engine is it's an excellent friction modifier and antiwear additive. for that same reason, it's not recommended in the transmission because of possible slippage. Unless you're dead set on honda oil if i were u, i'd do a little research on oil. there are oils just as good if not better than honda oil for a lot cheaper! also if you use honda use the hp4 series, it's their higher quality synthetic. Personally, I use Bel Ray thumper synthetic oil for my engine

I just did my 1st oil change as well. My dealer wouldnt even rec. the GN4. He did rec. the HP4, which I am using, on both sides. I plan on changing oil/filter often. Cheap insurance. I will prolly use the Honda oil till the factory warranty runs out.

yea my dealer just threw in a bottle of gn4 but its only enough to do one side, great service eh...lol anyways is it a moly oil or non moly...and the hp4...is it moly or non moly?

HP4 = no-Moly
HP4N = w/Moly
(...I'm pretty sure)

I recently switched over to the AMSOIL 4 strokle 10w40 oil that is fully synthetic to run in the motor side and still use the non-moly gear oil from Honda to run in the tranny side... I'm breaking in my motor right now, so i will know how efficient it is running once i dump my oil in about 4 more hours of riding.

GN4 = Non Moly. Just plain 'ole petroleum based oil

so i would be correct by using it in the trans side and getting a moly-based oil for the engine side?...i plan on using a different oil in the trans side after this change but id like to use up my gn4 for this change

I use Mobil 1 gold cap fully synthetic in the motor side and the Honda stuff in the tranny side, the mobil 1 seems to work excellent and you can get it just about anywhere so thats one more thing that i like about it.
