I am looking at buying 400EX. Anyone have any problems with there 400EX getting to hot? I do mostly trail riding. Everyone else runs Z400's, KFX400's and 700's and they never have any problems (water cooled). I just want to make sure I won't get left behind on hot days. Is there anything that will help, besides scoops?

if your jetting is correct, you should not overheat. I have had no problems with overheating on my 426, so on a fairly stock bike, you will not have any problems.

if you ovber heat by the end of the day the 400ex hits nuetral all the time shifting up from first.

Not quite sure I understand. So all gears besides 1st get "locked out?"

oil temps with a perfectly jetted (on the rich side) bike will still go 330+ in the dunes when pushed hard. run synthetic!

i think dino oil starts severly losing it's lubricating qualities after approx 300* F

i only took it to Moses Lake once, now when i dune i take the KFX (going to Beverly dunes tomorrow AM actually)

not for my kind of riding i guess......

but find a long flat strip, keep the rpms down and the mph high and you'll cool it to ~280* in no time. that will give you another 10 minutes of play time.

i dont know if there is a lot you can do, aircooled motors are just inherently weak in that aspect

try not ridin the trails in 1st... try ridin more in low second or low third... and dont rev the top of the gears.

yeah it sucks when air cooled motors get hot, but if you keep air going past the motor youll be fine. dont idle it for extended periods of time..

how did you get that measurement, 330 degress? was that from the motor, before the cooler, or after the cooler? if its 330 before and like 220 after the cooler, maybe its not so bad. cooler is obviously working.

Topic creator- don't worry about it. You won't overheat trail riding. These engines are made of Superman, they take alot of punishment anyways.
