filing rings to gap for piston???

I set my rings in my cylinder and they are very tight. Looks like I will have to file them. Does sixteen thousands sound good to anyone? The Wiseco paper says 4 thousands for every inch of cylinder I figuar the 400EX cylinder is 4 inches are these numbers adding up to anyone??? Any tips on filing rings?

does the paperwork tell you what the ring gap should be? if so i would set it according to those specs...just dont file too much...lol
