I have one and it works great. Best thing you can add for dead engine starts. The price might scare you a little though depending on your discounts is around $500.

$500!! yeah that did scare me, why so much? im guessing you need new rear fenders for it to fold into?

I am wondering the same thing, I have a list of all the parts but there is no list for that little piece where the kicker folds into. Shawn, do we have to buy all new plastics for the rear?

We picked up our 06 Kicker on Monday of last week and man thats the way to go. They are hard to get ahold of, but well worth it in the end. The dealer told me he couldn't really budge on the price because there arn't many kickers around but paying more now will pay off in the end, i know it.

I took that piece off of a used set of 04 rear plastic I had at my shop and with a little triming got it to work until I buy new fenders.

I heard that the price is so high because all of the pieces now come from Japan they aren't made in the US. One way to make the cost cheaper is to take the 04-05 kicker and sand it a little so that it wont hit your clutch cover it only cost around $35 and the kicker for the 06 is $150.

if you look inside your 06 er plastic, rite were the kicker would fold in the plastic, on the inside under the tank, you can see there is a recess covered by the plastic were you could carefully cut the plastic with a dremmel then sand it for your kicker to lay in, until the plastic is not so expensive. its like they were planning for a kicker to go there anyway, and laid a piece of plastic over to cover the recess up.

apparently, what you do is order the 04-05 kick start, the start gear and install it on the 06. if anybody has definate part names and even possibly part #'s that would be awsome.:D

Shawn Hess

Have your dealer look at the motor diagram for the 06. It shows the parts for the e-start and the kicker have him order all the parts to make the e-start a kicker. It is very simple. It includes a seal, starter shaft to hold the gears and the kicker, some bearings, and a few other gears with spacer shims.

I will definately be looking into this. If anyone manages to get all the part #'s please share it with us. I am gonna try to get them as soon as possible, so if I get them I will post ASAP.

I have successfully added the kick starter to my 06 TRX450ER. I have the complete parts list with diagrams in pdf format. If you want a copy, send me an e-mail at

bn_400ex@hotmail.com

Please note that the parts list does not include changes for hot-start operation also found on the 06 TRX450R.

A Honda Service Manual is also a good thing to have for installing the kicker.

I wonder if the 04/05 plastics would work on our bikes?? Yes the 06' plastics are expensive; Dealer gave me the same story about being made in Japan!

A Honda Service Manual is also a good thing to have for installing the kicker. Please give us a run down of how hard it was, how long to do it, and how well it works. Oh, and some pics would be great! Thanks

Sorry, no pictures. The ones in the service manual are good.

Relatively easy to do. Drain the coolant and oil. Pull the right side crankcase cover. Remove the clutch. Put in the kickstarter gears, bearings, etc... Don't forget to put in the kick stopper plate (not mentioned in the manual). Put clutch on. Remove plastic cover plate from crankcase cover (where the kick starter spindle comes out) and put in seal. Put crankcase cover on. Install kickstart lever. Add oil and coolant. Hardest part was cleaning the gasket material off of the crankcase and putting all the rubber grommets in the new plastic. Job should take 1-2 hours if you are mechanically inclined (took me over 3 hours).

Works very good at least on a cold and warm motor. Consistently faster starts than the electric (comparable to 04-05 kick). I have not tried it out under very hot motor conditions yet.

Yeah lets see some pictures. I am interested in this. Did the $500 include new rear plastic or not? I haven't had any problems with my electric except for when it's hot/you stall it. So how does the kicker do for that? I would think without the Hot start it wouldn't be the best?

I had no problems starting mine with the kicker after a 1 hour XC race today. This is without any hot-start modifications. But then again, mine also starts well with the electric when it is hot.

Hey Guys, a picture of that divet that is already in the plastic on the 06' ER would be cool. Why.....I have been looking for some cheap plastics for an 06'-no luck. Looking to save something on the conversion, cheapest I can get the parts less the plastics is $380 +shipping. When someone gets a pic of their kicker conversion pls post them-really dying to see what it looks like.

Tripyn

Wow, when I looked it was more then that and some of the parts for an 06' were not listed. The 04/05 parts numbers were not the same but did not look any different. Did not want to take that chance because you never know.

Bart I was just looking the parts list over that you sent me and noticed #9 of the kick start spindle is not in it. There is another 25T/13T gear you need, do you not need both? I noticed they had different part numbers?

Bart

Dave,

Part #22 is used instead of #9 on the 2006 model.

Good luck.
