i know you could, but should you?

mine looks crusty..

is the factory head pipe just rolled steel?

is there any coating like chromate that youd need to be concerned with?

just take some steal wool to it it will get all the crusty stuff offand make the header loook nice . only way to prevent that stuff is just wash after every ride cause thats just mud that gets baked on.

I bead blasted mine about a month ago... looks fine to me... I think it is stainless steel.

Yeah, stock 400 Headpipe is stainless steel.

If you bead plast it, it will end up being a dull gray color until you ride on it the first time. The it will look like the pic above.

Bead blasting won't hurt the pipe, but like JR3 said, steel wool and little elbow grease will get just as good of a result.

A Scotch Brite pad works really well also. You can follow up with buffing compound which gives it a mirrored finish.

But still yet a gentle sand blast won't hurt anything, but listen to these guys if you want a really nice finish.

i took a grinder with the wire brush type head on it and knocked all the crust off it... then i took a stiff brissle tooth brush and some wd-40 to get the knooks and crannys that the grinder couldnt get... it shined it up as well as cleaned it and looks almost like brand new
