chain links

how do you count links of chain? my bike has longer swingarm, and I counted 53 outside plates(including master link) but i read the 400ex came w/92 links.

i counted mine...... i think it is one outside plate and one inside plate counts as one full link

simple way, with master link installed, count number of holes. ( that the sprocket teeth will go into )
