well i used to have an r then got a 440ex now i'm fixing up an lt80 in the garage and started thinking...wouldn't it be nice to build a 250r from the ground up the way i want it.

what do you guys think of doing this nowadays?? worth it with all of the 450's out there now. i'd probably run a 310pv or 330

what is the best frame to start with, i heard lonestars cracked up pretty fast

I built my 250r from the frame up, and I deffinatly don't regret it. Mine just has a stock frame thats been gusseted. It will still hold it's own against the new 450's. My mildly modded motor keeps right up with my buddy's 450r. If you go with a 310 or 330 you will be walking all over the new 450's.

thats what i like to hear...keep the comments coming i'd like to hear what everyone has to say on this, especially about what frame/motor to use

I had the same exact thoughts just over a year ago.

"Build one from the frame up ... the way I want it".

I took the plunge and Im almost finished and dont regret a minute of it. Its been fun... and how many people out there riding the new 450s can say... " I built this one from the frame up"...

NONE!!!!!!!!!!

Heres a pict of mine.

I might as well post a pic of mine too. The best sugestions that I can say is take your time and buy as many of the parts new as you can. Used parts can be good quality, but you really don't know what your getting untill you actualy get it. I really cheaped out on my plastics, as you can tell.

Here's my build. Trying to locate a 400EX rear caliper right now and my rear Hiper's arrived last week. I have had fun building this beast and I can't wait to roost on it!!

For the front brakes a good upgrade would be 450r spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers, and resivoir/brake lever. Then get a good set of stainless lines that fit the width of your a arms. As for just about everything else on the quad I would sugest you stick with just 250r parts.

I just bought the 450R set up last week from service honda. The total came to 700 and something. If anyone needs a parts list, I could possibly pass my list along.

I would love so much to build a quad from the frame up. Do any manufacturers still make and sell aftermarket frames? Does anybody make aftermarket frame that'll take a crf engine with 400ex ergos?
