Thanks for taking the time to look...
We have a 2003 300EX that has hardly been ridden enough to be broken in but has been sitting for at least a year. We have been able to get it running but it smokes or shoots flames out of the pipe and will only run with the choke fully open. It has a HMF pipe (brand new) and a 125 jet I believe. (whatever HMF recommended). After we got it all put back together, plug changed,jet changed, carb cleaned, old gas drained, etc. then realized HMF also recommends to "adjust fuel mixture screw to the highest smooth idle. Approximate 2 1/2 turns from the bottom". We need to know if we have to take the carb back off to get to the screw, where is the screw located or what does it look like and if "from the bottom" means counterclockwise or clockwise. And if that is not what is causing the problem with it running properly what else could it be.????????? ANY HELP is MUCH appreciated!!! We have been working on this for days.

that "screw" is the air screw, it is one the bottom of the quad. Turn that all the way in until it seats and then back out 2 1/2 turns. Also, I can tell you right now, that the 125 jet is too small.

Agree,

125may be ok if the airbox lid is on and not punched and hes running he stock header.

If the lid is off and he has an aftermarket header, he needs somewhere between a 130-135.

Also yea, the air screw is on the bottom of the stock carb toward the engine. It will be a slotted brass screw head.

(And it is an air screw.. tested ut hooked up to an a/f monitor. Turning it in makes it richer, out makes it leaner.

Just like a standard screw.

Clockwise = in
Counterclockwise = out

Thanks for the replies...We have done the above and have the screw adjusted to where HMF says it is supposed to be...it is still running terrible and shooting flames out of the pipe. Any other ideas of what could be causing this? THANKS again!

PS...The only way it will run without staying on the gas is with the choke wide open. Try dropping the choke and the engine shuts down.
