I know all the different kinds of procedures people do, and how people say it should be done, i was just curious how everyone broke their 450r in!

I just got done reading that break in article and I just had my engine rebuilt. So I'll be doing some breaking in next week.

Is he saying to just go hard in 2nd 3rd and 4th? and for how long?

What did you guys do, I broke my original engine in easy and it felt sluggish compared to my buddies, who broke in a little harder. I want to go by this method.

rode not past half throttle up and down the street through all the gears for about 5 minutes. then shut it off and led it cool completely down. Did that again but for 10 minutes. Then I rode the hell out of it and changed the oil after the first tank of gas.

Like he said. I let mine warm up for a few minutes, then drag raced it for about an hour.

DO NOT RIDE IT EASY!! Break it in hard. Like you said the last one felt sluggish. Run it hard from the first start up. Also don't start it unless you are ready to break it in. I know every has an opinion on this and most of them are just that an opinion not knowledge from experience. Also ask theses people that say break it in easy "If they have ever built or tore down a motor." I bet the answer is NO!!

I started mine and let it warm up for a few minutes. Then I rode it like I normally ride for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes of riding I changed the oil on both sides and filter. Then I rode it all day and changed the oil on both sides and filter again. I change my oil after every time I ride or at the end of the weekend if I go away.

DO NOT Start it and let it run and shut it down. Start it let it warm up for a few minutes. Then ride the hell out of it.

My buddy with a yfz started it up and rode it like hell, 3 months later his engine seazed. Is this just bad luck?

It definitely couldn't be a result of his hard break in right?

Maybe cuz its a yamaha?

I'm not doubting you guys, I just want to be really sure. My quad has already been in the shop since january.

You just need to make sure you let it warm up before you break it in.

letting it idle during break in is one of the worst things you can do

I usually cruise around slowly with a slight increase in throttle on each tank. I usually do about 3-5 tanks for break-in, and once I feel it is time, I bust down on it! I have done all of my bikes like this with the best of luck. My old 400EX was done like this and everyone that ever came across me told me that it was by far the fastest 400EX they had ever seen. When I tore down my engine it looked very well, and after 7 years of riding I never lost a bit of performance. Don't know if I am lucky or what, but it works for me.

Brand new 05 TRX450 last year was broke in racing at BIG Buck, GNCC in 05. Fresh motor this year was broke in at the Orange Crush,FL GNCC. Havent had any problems. But you should break it in some what. We just didnt have any time before these races to do it.

Riding hard and beating the crap out of something are 2 different things.. dont ride it like a retard and beat the living hell out of it , but dont ride it like a granny.

I've done the same thing with the same results. Only it was through 2 tanks of gas with limited full throttle before that :uhoh: I guess there's 2 lucky guys

I rode mine hard during breakin and still it run's great. My 04 that is.

I ran it hard just making sure not to bounce off the limiter is all. I was not afraid to find the limiter, just dont sit on it bouncing.

I have been told to break it in like you ride it. I picked it up on a Thrusday rode about a tank out of it on friday and saturday. Then I changed the oil and raced a 2 hour XC race. A bit over a year old and never had any problems. I do change the oil after nearly every ride and change the filter after every 3rd race.
