I guess the kid is the real deal.

Youngest player in NHL history to reach the 100-point mark.

Sure he does .... he's got 100 points to prove it .

You gotta give it to the kid ..... he managed to pull off 100 points while the rest of his team crumbled around him .... half his line mates retired :ermm: and the team management/ownership is in jeapordy .

Ovechkin might have the goals , but Crosby has the proof that he can feed the puck to the guys with his smooth hands .... plus the kid can put the puck in the net too !!!!! 39 goals , 63 assists, 102 points in 81 games .... I'm impressed !!!

i agree, now how long before the pens cannot afford him anymore? i am sorry to say i dodn't make it to a game this year, i hope to see him play in a pens jersey, in person...he is fun to watch...
i myself like to see assists. if a nice goal is set up by a nice pass, it makes both even sweeter...the boy has that touch

You probably won't see him in a Pens jersey for very much longer .... there's talks that after the playoffs are done and over with , the team will be moving . A few cities have been mentioned ... Las Vegas , Winnipeg , Seattle , Rochester ( or Syracuse) . Personally I think the team will head to Las Vegas but I'd love to see them move to Winnipeg .

04-20-2006, 06:30 AM
there have been those talks for years, there are also the same talks of a new stadium just day from approval. i think they will move before a new stadium is built... will be sad, but the nhl let the salaries go for too long. many trams are in the same financial trouble as the pens...sad to say, hockey is the most fun of the major sports to watch...

He is good.

But there is good which Crosby is, and then their is amazing, whcih Ovechkin is and Crosby is not.

If Crosby wins rookie of the year over Ovechkin then that is a damn shame. And would be total BS.

I hate Crosby. And I'm Canadian too. He is a sellout and is nothing compared to Ovechkin. Atleast Ovechkin can play physical as well.

Crosby is nothing but a cry baby.

Winnipeg can barley afford to keep the lights on. Sorry to say some of the best old time hockey was played there.

I don't see it going thru.

This has been a hot local Pittsburgh topic for a few months now. We are in the process of legalizing gambling (slot casino's) and the casino that wins the contract will be building us a new arena. If this happens, the Pen's are NOT going anywhere.

The ONLY reason that will drive them from Pittsburgh is if they do not get a new arena...and the city has a Plan B already if the casino plan has issues.

HOCKEY is the ****. I would be pretty upset if Pittsburgh lost the penguins. Thats a lot of classic hockey gone.

What makes him a sellout ?? He might not play as physical of a game as Ovechkin ... but then again , he isn't on the team as a physical player .... he's a small guy when looking at the NHL average . Ovechkin is 6'2" and 215 lbs ... Crosby is 5'11" and 190 .

He's got nobody on the team to help him out physically . A week or 2 ago , some guy tried to take Crosby's knee out intentionally .... he got off the ice in pain ..... Who went after the guy that stuck the knee out ?? No One and that's complete BS .

If someone ever tried to take Gretzky out when he was playing , you can very well guarantee that someone would be getting jumped the next shift . As a matter of fact , when Gretzky played in his earlier years , some guy intentionally went after his knee .... the guy never played another shift in the NHL after that . Pittsburgh needs players to look after their star player ... not let chit slide

Keep your fingers crossed that the team stays in Pittsburgh .

I didn't het a chance to watch many Pens games this year , but how was attendance figures for the games ?? I know that if they were to move to Vegas , rumor has it , it would have seating for 25-30 000 people and they would expect it to sell out every game since Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world .

I'm still waiting for the NHL to allow for another Canadian team . Hamilton Ontario is still fighting to get a team and I know they would sell out every game . Toronto Maple Leafs sold out all their games this year and the suckers still didn't make the playoffs . I tried getting tickets at the beginning of the season and had no luck . I could of bought them from scalpers at a price of about $500 a ticket for average seats ... too rich for my blood !!!!

What makes him a sellout is the numerous commercials that he is making. He's more interested in making money than playing hockey. Ovechkin is focused 110% and it shows.

LMAO... he's making commercials so he's a sellout?

I agree with MOFO ..... I wouldn't consider him a sellout because he makes commercials .... the kid is advancing his career .

Players will always be involved with the media .... especially if they are a star player . The media portrays Crosby as the next Gretzky .... and I believe he is the next " Great One" . Look at any sports star players ... they are all doing commercials at one time or another in their career . Shaq does them for some pain relief medication , Gretzky does Ford commercials , Tiger Woods does AMerican Express , Jeff Gordon does Pepsi commercials , etc .

I'd say he's focused on hockey ... the kid recorded over 100 points in regular season play . If that's not dedicated , then I don't know what is .

On a side note ... It's about freakin time the Leafs fired Pat Quinn . Getting a new coaching staff in there will be the smartest move they've made in the last 7 years . I think half the guys on the Leafs bench could also take a ride to join the minor leagues .... chit to add to it , John Fergusson Jr could also jump on that bus . I've always been a Toronto fan , but man it's hard to admit it when asked !!!:ermm:

I do not think he is a sell out.

I just think everyone gave him to much publicity to start with.

Comparing him to Gretzky is absolutely ridiculious.

He is not even in the same ball park as Gretzky, He is not the next great one.

He isnt even the best rookie this year for christ sake, why are we comparing him to Gretzky.

I hope he doesnt win rookie of the year, just because he gets so much more attention.

Becuase everyone, even if your a blind homer, would agree that Ovechkin is superior to him and I think has a brighter future in this league.

I can think of 10 players, probabaly more. That are playing better than Crosby this year.

So everyone needs to jump off Crosbys d**k.

Both them kids are in the NHL for a reason. Theyre both athletes and team players. How long will this last, no one will know.

As for the pengs, changes will occur and possibly trades too.

Capitals have a great looking team for the future now and maybe some adjustments will occur.

Both of them are some the the best young players to come in to the NHL since the late 80's and early 90's. Both are great and will be great for a long time. Remember that Ovechkin is two years older than Crosby. There has only been two 18 year olds to score 100 points in season. Ever!!! There has been countless 20 year olds that have scored 100 points. I am not trying to take anything away for Ovechkin. He is amazing. I think Ovechkin is a better goal scorer and I think Crosby is a better play maker.

But, what do I know. I think Mario is the greatest player ever. Way more talented than Gretzky was. If Mario came into the NHL with the team Gretzky did he would of had a few 100 goal seasons.

I agree .

Many people in the league have said that Crosby should have played atleast 1 year down in the minors with the farm team . Like it was stated , he is a young player . Most guys his age usually still have another 2 or 3 years playing with a Junior team like the one he came from . He went from playing against young guys that were 16-21 years old , to playing against men that have been in the NHL for years ... that's a pretty big step that both him and Ovechkin took .

Matt37 ..why shouldn't he be compared to Gretzky ?? Because he's not a 50 goal scorer in his first season?? Watch the plays he makes .... he can setup a play just as good as the top guys in the league , if not better. If a play isn't setup properly , you're not going to get goals .

As far as him getting attention , there's a reason for it . People want to see him and hear about him. Hoping he doesn't win Rookie of the Year because he'd get too much attention is sad .

If a 100+ point rookie doesn't win Rookie of the Year , there's absolutely something wrong with the selection . IMO

i'm agreeing with everything Quad18star has to say because, they're canadian and, canadians know hockey... but i do believe we will get a new arena very soon and the pens arent going ANYWHERE.... if the rest of the team doesnt shape up a bit, or we dont get a new arena, i'll agree crosby might leave.... who knows what's going to happen for sure, i guess we just gotta wait and see:huh

Crosby is the man.

The pens also have the 2nd pick next year. Plus they have the rights to some dude playing in russia.

Mario was better than Gretzky.:eek2:

Another player to watch out for in the comming years is a player from the OHL's ( Ontario Hockey League) London Knights by the name of Dylan Hunter . He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres a couple years back . He's a great player , top scorer and can setup a play really well . He recorded 117 points in regular season play and his team is the top contender to win the cup in the league !!!!

In addition to him , another player from the team by the name of Dave Bolland has 130 points in regular season play and 25 so far in the playoffs !!!!

I'll agree with you ..... Phaneuf is a great player. Calgary is lucky to have a kid with as much talent as he has . Watching him and Crosby play together for Team Canada at the World Juniors Championship was awesome .

Two guys from our local OHL team to watch for in the up comming years are Benoit Pouliot drafted by Minnissota and Mark Stall ( brother of Eric Stall) drafted by the New York Rangers . They're both headed to the Pro Leagues next year.
