Can I run this carb on a stock 86 250r. I am putting on an fmf fatty expansion chamber with a powercore 2 silencer.
It has a k&N filter open box

Will it increase power? Or is it unecessary?

I am just trying to get an idea of the proper and most reliable carb to run on my 86 R.

Any help involving the proper jets and/or the proper carb to use would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a good one

The Keihin 38mm Airstryker is one of the best carbs for a 250R. It really opens up the top end and doesn't sacrifice too much low end when compared to the PJ series. It all depends on your type of riding for what carb you need. If your doing strictly dune riding, I would recommend a bigger carb like a 38 or 39mm carb. Overall, the 38mm Airstryker is the best of both worlds with top end without sacrificing much low end. As for jetting, it all depends on where you live and what is your alititude. Run the carb and do plug chops until you get the plug a perfect color without any hestitations in the throttle.

I have one and put it on when I just had a fmf fatty exhaust and it helped the engine so much, 38mm PK Keihin is definetly worth the money....

if you do dunes get a 39pwk, it will be better on top. I had 38 a/s on my atc along with a 310pv and now I have a 39 pwk, I like the pwk better with the pv top-end, low-end isn't a concern of mine due to the pv.

it will work on a stock intake and airbox boot, clamps woln't work, you just need bigger ones.. the boots are a stretch.

it makes it easy if you use a heat gun and heat up the rubber, then use a beer bottle(regular) and push the neck side on the rubber and once its big enough flip the bottle around, do this to both ends, the carb will almost slip in, especailly if you use new tubes(very highly recommended).

Or you can go a step farther and get a few more parts.....

Call up ESR and order a 38mm A/S PWK and for around $200 you'll get a prejetted carb, a bunch of main jets, and machined aluminum ring that will press onto the front of the carb and allow your stock intake boot (airbox side) to fit without new clamps or stretching.

On the outlet side of the carb, buy a CR250 reed cage and CR intake boot. You'll also need a CR clamp and bolt. ESR can set you up with these parts too for around $100 or less. The gain is awesome!
