Can anyone please explain to me the differences between the 2004 and the 2005 YFZ450's? What about 2005 to 2006? I have always rode Kawi and Honda and haven't paid much attention to the Yamaha's and now I'm in the market : ) Help a future brother out! Were there ANY known problems with the YFZ450's in 2004?

yes.
in 04 the yammis did have problems.
im not real sure the problems but i have a friend with one and he has had some problems tha ti just never payed attention to.
i believe that one of their problems is over-charging the battery ( not sure tho) but you can buy something to fix that problem , i believe it is called a sparf resistor (once again not sure)

there are other problems but im not real sure about them, there are plenty of fixes for them though.
but if i were you i would lean more twoards the 05 or 06 yammi.
perhaps someone else can explain the problems better than i can.
I hope that i was at least some help!

04-05 has different chain adjustments than the 06 ..the 06 adj is better....04 has a battery charging prob... u need a resistor kit if u take the lights off... and a de compression plug pops out after a while.. not sure if its a pro with 04 05 and 06 or just 04. but a new ine is like 9.99

i havea 04 but never had any probs

04-05
Some 04 owners had the charging issues w the 04 but the resistor kit fixes it, the decomp plug sometimes blew out, a decomp plug fixes it.

05- Decomp plug fixed, new stator fixed charging problems, softer seat and revalved front shocks, aluminum brake lever and shifter.

06- New swingarm w chain adjustment, true 450 (449cc), smoother powerband, softer seat, new rear linkage, new tie rod ends, dual piston rear caliper, taller stem, repostioned radiator, aluminum bumper and grab bar, softer thottle, and cool led tail light.

Hope this helps

PS- the fixes for the 04 are minimal so if you come across a good deal dont be afraid to jump on an 04... they are still an amazing bike.
