Well after spending lots of money on your quad its about time you spent some on yourself. So be and Kilabanshee(Brent) decided to head down to Joe's house for his school. It was on the 15th and 16th this month. It was a good 17 hour drive but it was worth it. In the class we learned alot of things to practice and get better. In just 2 days i took 8 sec off my lap time. He has a great set up, a wonderful track, watering system, and other things. Here are a few pictures from the trip. If you have and questions just post them.

When rolling onto his driveway you know who lives there.

The first thing we did when we got there was roll our quads into his shop for a meet and greet.

Then they look over your quad and you get push ups if anything is wrong.

Then we had a quick stretch to get ready to ride.

Alex when you're posting pictures dont just post the link at the top of the picture. Right click properties and copy past the link there. It's different and should allow the pictures to be viewed rather then opened...

hey man, i was at that school last weekend to. I was the one one the Yellow 300, number 489. Were you two the ones on the black and red eastcoastatv 450r's? This school was freaking awesome, i want to go back again sometime in the future.

Yeah I was the tall kid on the red ecatv 450r. My friend is alittle shorter and has both the black and red ecatv 450r's. I liked it alot! I honestly think I came into that school faster. The only reason I don't feel I left faster is because I really didn't have time to practice the techniques, breaking points ect. I just didn't feel 100% comfortable locking up my front breaks like that. I'm sure over time I'll get better and better. I really wish he would have taken ous over the larger jumps! I wanted to hit that first tripple real bad! I'm really not used to that style of track. Most of the jumps were pretty close together and didn't have much for landings. Some were perfect others were not... It was just hard for me to adapt to his track for some reason...

later,

Brent

I'm racing district 5 this year. There is alot more tracks in d-5 so I think it will be better for me. I'll also be racing a few Dutchmen races in district 6.

Brent

Just curious if anyone won the challenge? I read somewhere if you completed it under the set time the prize was like $500.00.

Someone actually got within 8 seconds of winning the money. Joe said if anyone made it fairly close to it he'd give them the money. I'm not sure if he got it or not....

8 seconds. WOW! Can Joe do it under the time limit?

I was actually going to go to the April class but opted for the August one instead. Not much on cool weather but the temps there in August are probably going to make me regret that decision. Pretty stoked about going. From what you've said and others have said it's definitely worth it. BTW, what hotel did you stay at? Aslo, does Joe let you keep your quad at his place overnight? Forgot to ask him about that.

what do they do to make you faster .. thats a ton of money just to get a little better

Jeremy Lawson was the one that got within 8 seconds. And for those of you that dont know, he is now a Pro Racer. And i beleive it makes you more comfortable on the track, and little things that no one would think about, bike setup, diet and nutrition, training. Alot of things. One kid that works at Jannsen has done it before and he was there again, and even got faster. I dont really know how to explain it. But it was a hell of alot of fun.

Yeah I learned alot.... The front break thing is hard getting used to. I also don't like pointing my knee going into every corner. I found alot of the things he tought useful and somethings I didn't. I guess it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

whats the front brake thing.. i think thats what i do if i know what your talking about

Kilabanshee
05-03-2006, 05:06 PM
Alright he teaches you to basically just use your front breaks. He says your fronts are 70% of your beaking power and your rears are then 30%. He had ous pactice out breaking points into this left hand sweeper. He tought ous a certain body position technique were he says you can slow down alot faster and it helps to not fly over the bars from locking up the fronts. He told ous get in the attack position "elbows bent, fingers on controls, back at an angle". He then told ous to sit roughly 8" off the seat. Then move back as far as you can without having your arms strait out. The strait you have your arms the weaker they are. Really there are certain turns which front break use is great and some turns that I don't use the front breaks at all. He also highly recommends when you find your breaking points while locking up the front breaks take your thumb off the throttle and put it on the throttle box. That way you don't accidently stab the throttle while locking up.

Hope this helps...

I saw you at Rausch Creek on Saturday? Did you see me #151 red 450r ecatv graphics? I was going to say something but I wasn't sure if it was you. That guy on who wreck on that tabletop looks like he messed up his wrist pretty bad!

yeah bro i saw you he crashed like 30 secounds before i was gona go off that jump.. i parked my quad right on the jump and went to llook at him.. his finger was pushed back above the top of his main hang bones.. it was nasty. i dont even know how he crashed.. I hate seeing people get hurt.. next time stop by and say hi..

I was at irish valley all day and came to rausch to throw in some extra free practice..

also about the braking.. i havent had rear brakes for 1 year so i never use them anymore even know we fixed them.

it seems if u lock up ur front breaks then ur gonna do a endo.

Kilabanshee
05-03-2006, 07:46 PM
Well that's another reason why you use the body position I posted above. I'll try to explain this.... If you've ever locked up the front breaks you know you really can't steer because you tires aren't spinning. So really when you lock up the front breaks you'll be going in the direction you're moving. When using the back breaks you can lock up and slide buy moving the bars. The places I use my front breaks are High speed sweepers, High banked berms, ect.... Turns that will turn you naturally without you having to do much turning. If you get what I mean. Well anyways you really just have to find your breaking points. Find and object or place something down sometime at a corner. Go wide open upto that object then lock up the breaks. See how far you can improve without getting to uncomfortable or flying over the berm or turn. For me I feel alot faster using my front breaks in most sweepers, flat turns ect, Alot of those turns I go full our lock up the front breaks just to slow down most of my momentum and don't use any breaking from their on. It's hard to explain really. I guess it really just depends on what you're comfortable with.. If you guys have any questions with riding or how to approach a certain situation let me know. I remember everything Joe tought me and I'de be glad to share it!

what did he say to eat and drink in between races?

Kilabanshee
05-08-2006, 07:34 PM
He really didn't say alot about eating before a race. He just told ous what to eat period.

Instead of eating fried chicken eat baked chicken.... Instead of eating pizza eat pasta..... Don't drink soda drink water....

I also wanted to know what was good to eat before a race...... Maybe I'll call him and ask......
