Thought I would do alittle write-up on this project.

Now, a lot of people say it is crazy because you have to grind the shocks so they will fit. Some people say they go in w/o ginding. If that is the case, awesome. I had to grind mine. In no way does the amount of grinding you do compromise the integrity of the shock. It is very MINIMAL.

First pic is of where and how much you need to grind because of the plastic's mounting bolt inside of the upper shock mount.

this is a small grind just so you clear the bolt. Seen here in this pic

Next pic is the inner part of the shock where it can hit the gussett of the shock mount..

this is an even smaller grind. You just put a 45 degree angle right where the shock eye would hit the gussett.

This took me about an hour and a half. I was unfortunately using my dremel to grind w/ because my grinder was out on loan. The dremel did a fine job, it just took a lot longer than the proper tool.

Torque bolts and your done.

any pictures of the whole thing. when my friend did this to his 400ex his 400 stood STRAIGHT UP. i would not reccommend this unless you get them revalved

I cant speak for your friends quad or his mechanical abilities.

If you put the 2 shocks next to each other, the 450r shock is alittle longer.

I lowered the jack w/ the 450 shock on the right side and the 400 shock on the left side. the 450 shock tire just barely hit the ground first.

I would recommend this setup for anyone looking for a cheaper suspension upgrade. And if you revalve and get diff springs down the road, you'll have great shocks.

Here is my '05 400EX with '06 450R shocks that I had re-valved and re-sprung by GT Thunder. It actually sits lower then the stock shocks!

GT Thunder has the ability to shorten the compressed length of the shock and allow for more sag (lower ride height)!

I have 2 rides on these shocks and I'm very happy, they fit into my budget and give a much better ride then the stock 400EX shocks.

Also note I had GT Thunder redo my rear suspension and I'm running his XC link.

I'd do it again!

But you still have to grind the backside, so why not just F* one thing up, instead of grinding down the shock and the frame.

You have to grind right there.
