Ive got a '94 4-runner and have been seriously contemplating swapping out the sluggish stock 3.0 ltr. and dropping in a 350. Just thought I would see if anybody else has, or known someone who dropped a SBC into a Yotar-Motor to see how easy/hard it will end up being. It would not phase me either way to put in a 302, but all of my friends and family are pretty much GM folk, so coming across parts and tech tips would be much easier. Plus a 350 is much more abundant. Thanx.

never done it personally, but have heard from many of my yota buddies that it is easier than putting one in an S10. Advance adapters makes most of teh parts you would need to do the swap. there used to be a company that made a kit to do it. You will have all the problems of any swap: cooling, exhaust, wiring, heater, tranny, driveshafts.
place to contact.
painless wiring for all your wire harness needs
Advance adapters
A good D-shaft shop
you may need some supsension work due to the extra weight.

I have done lots of research on engine swaps for toyota and was going to do one but decided to sell mine and I think that a 4.3 chevy with a turbo 350 would be the best engine to put into it. A 350 just doesnt fit you are either going to have to cut the firewall or the radiator support move the radiator and put hood pins on. If you have a 3.0 stock a 3.4 out of a newer tacoma is a easy swap.

Well... it takes lots of work... at the moment i have a carbed 302 sitting in my 85 4runner with an AOD transmission behind it... it has been pretty easy so far, the fan is gonna be tight (electric) even after cutting the core support out... however the stuff that gets you is the little annoying stuff with the linkages and random stuff like that. And if you go with a Fuel injected engine, thats a whole nother ball park. the 302 fits nicely but its still no small chore or a cheap on. as far as tech? a 302 is a pretty simple engine.

i can answer more specific questions if you have them

Yea, I thought about doing a 3.4 swap and slapping a TRD supercharger on it, but just thinkin how wicked it would be to see/hear a small block v8 under the hood of the jap-mobile. I know Northwest Offroad makes a lot of specialized toyota parts and from what I hear they make grade A equipment. Thanks for the input fellas.

My buddy put a 305 (same size as 350) on an '84 frame for the solid front axle and then dropped a 92 or so IFS body on it. Firewall fit fine after meeting a sledgehammer:D Advance adapters and a welder is pretty much all you need except gas money.

Talking about block size, not ci's. They are the same size block. Same motor/tranny mounts.

Def would not want to put a 305 in, thats just a dog motor.

it sorda is. NorCal had a good point they are the same size. they only difference is that the 305 has a little bit smaller displacement. the sacrifice is only about 10 15 horses on a stock motor. but i would def got with a 350 u can find them jus about anywhere and in some places are cheaper than the 305's.

I was not recommending a 305 just saying a 350 is feasible and will fit.
