do 450r shock fit a 400ex

hey do the the honda 450r front shocks fit the 400ex and work correctly not just fit cause i believe they fit but not sure if they work correctly or not. and does anyone have forsale if they do thanks

The 450r front shocks will work on a 400ex. You have to grind down the top of the shock so it will fit into the mount. I have heard of quite a few people running those types of shocks. Check the for sale section on this site to find some.

If you have the cash, then get something better. 450r shocks are decent and better than stock, but if you have another way don't waste your time.

I have a set of 450r shocks with the works triple rate spring kit fitted, they are the mutz nutz.

They'll bolt up but definentely doesn't mean they're right. I've tried it, hated it, went aftermarket. I'll never go back.

i guess its all a matter of opinion because i absolutly love my 450 shocks. they are perfect for what i need. if you are looking for an improvement and dont want to spend a lot of money than the 450 are perfect. if you plan on racing or want top of the line equipment than i would look into aftermarket shocks.

I'm not bashing on the R shocks, they're great for a budget rec. rider. They're fully adjustable and rebuildable. If you're just wanting to toy around and not race they'll be fine. And once more funds come around you can get them rebuilt.

I got mine rebuilt by GT Thunder and I really like them!

Hey ZRPILOT, how do the GT Thunders compare to aftermarket. I debated forever if I should get elkas of do what you did, finally went with the elkas.

I honestly can't say because I could not afford Elkas. Also I have never ridden a quad with Elkas. Sorry.

But I can say that I have ridden my 400EX with the stock and the GT Thunders and the GT setup is far better then stock. For me it provided a reasonably priced alternative. I'm not a racer and spending over $1000 for the same featured shocks from Elka did not seem to make sense. Not to mention the fact I could not afford it! My total investment in the fronts was:
$250 for the 450R
$350 for the GT Thunder rebuild

My total investment was $600

Would I do it again? yes.

Will I have upgrade to Elkas someday? Hopefully!

elkas are truely the $***...if you are not going to be racing a rebuild will definitly be a big inprovement...if you are going to be racing get the elkas

ZRpilot, did you not get the rear done? Because when I was price quoted from GT Thunder it was 600 for front and rear. Plus the 250 for the R shocks. So I decided to spend alittle bit more and get elka fronts and tcs rebuild.

Your right I did get the rear done and Laz's link as well. And as you would expect it is a great setup. With the fronts and rear the total cost was $795 for the GT Thunder rebuild plus $250 for the shocks themselves.

So my complete suspension package cost me $1,045.00.

That was the route I was going to take, but I sold the R shocks, got front elkas for 900 and a rear tcs rebuild for 400. So I was 1300. I kind of wish I had that extra 250 for a pipe or something, but I'm happy.
