I was thinking about getting an 06 but went to pricing and for 6780 can get an 05 with pipe, filter, and hrc cam. Or an 06 bone stock for 6900. Is there really that much difference or will i be just as happy with an 05 over an 06 ?

Go with the 06. I have both and would prefer the 06 over my 05 with a similar set-up. You will be happy with whatever you choose though... these 450s rock!

I'm getting rid of my 04 this week and picking up a new 06, the engine is totally new, more power faster......go for the 06. 04 and 05 are the same incase you didnt know.

I have an '06 and wouldn't trade it for anything. This new motor really runs great. Higher compression, more power, great bike. My only question is can you not find a 2006 for under 6900? I just got mine two weeks ago, and paid 6399. Just curious. But in my opinion, go with the 2006. You won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I walked out the door with mine for $6,000 brand new.

Anyway, here is the best way I can describe it from what I have felt already through last stages of break in compared to my 05...

Well, first of all, my 05 has a HMF slip-on, K&N airfilter, Stage 2 Hotcam, and a Big Gun rev box. Power is very strong and crisp... needless to say I love this bike! However, when you step onto the 06 it is an entirely different bike. Don't be fooled by how similar they look... very few things were left alone! The new engine is much stronger! The carb is a very nice change as well, among so many other engine changes all around. Power comes in very fast and smooth, and hits much faster than the 05. The 06 has new gearing as well ( Lower) which is another factor helping with that greater pull. The gearing is noticable especially in places like trails, but even for other types of riding the gearing can easily be noticed and appreciated. What is the only thing possibly better than more power? A whole new way to put it down! The 06 by measurements appears to be about an inch longer and wider. It also has all new suspention componets. There are mixed opinions on which handles better... personally, I find the 06 drives like it is on rails compared to my 05 and handles rougher terrain much easier. The changes help alot in other situations as well. Power seems like it will be easier to put down and the bike will be more predictable compared to the 05, however, everything is easily available when you want it.. for example.. wheelies. Much easier than the 05, and yet doesn't happen as much when you don't want it to. Just some of the very first things to notice when you are riding.

Many other changes are there as well though. Personally, I like that you can get the 06 in both "ER" form and kick. Some people report problems on the E-start... I have had none.

Anyway, again, good luck with whatever you choose. I am sure you will be very happy with either. :macho

You will not be disipointed with the 06 over the 05. It pulls so much harder and the power is unreal. I came from a 400ex with a pipe so thats why it probably feels like it hauls but I still would not get an 05.

We just drag raced a brand new 05 and 06 and the 05 would beat the pants off the 06 stock for stock. Just thought you would like to know. I like the way the 05 makes power better than the 06. Just my opinion.

DID the guy on the 06 weigh 5 hundred pounds :eek2: :huh

Actually the guy on the 05 weighed 35lbs more. They even swithched bikes and the results were about the same it was not quite as bad though.

There is no way that is right. The 06 has a 12.1, a FCR, and a longer swingert. Unless the guy on the 06 had downs that is some BS.

Hey man just stating the facts. I have never rode another 06 and no one around has one to compare to it. I am just as shocked as everyone else. There were five different riders that rode them and it was the 05 every time. Stock for stock the 05 outran the 06!

my buddy has a 05, he raced a guy with an 06, and guess what, the 05 won the race, both riders where about the same size and both are very good riders

That sounds fishy... something has to have been wrong with those bikes... I really don't have a clue. I have both and personally, I feel that the 06 is gonna eat the 05 up. The 05 has a Stage 2 Hotcam, K&N airfilter, Big Gun rev box, and a HMF slip-on. I am just putting a HRC kit on my 06 for now. We will see what happens.

Well, Mine had the same problem. I had got my *** kicked with my stock 06 vs. the stock 05. They are so corked up this year it isnt even funny. After I got the HRC Kit installed in mine, There has been nothing that has been able to touch it. The HRC Kit makes it haul ***.

I would guess it depends on how long the race is.. It would be reasonable to think that with the taller gearing the '05 would take the '06 in top speed.

well saturday night I raced my close friends 04 and another 05(mines the o6)the race against the 05 was the closest id get him by a half a quad abd then hed beat me we raced 5-6 times. the race against the 04 is what pi$$ed me off this guy is my closeest friend of ten years so I KNOW its stock absolutley positive. each race he would walk away from in on top end and he even put a 13 tooth on it. I was pretty much chasing h9im every race a few times he even spotted me out 2 quad lenghts I dunno what to tell you guys but I would say from experiance the 06 is not faster stock vs stock. I do weigh a lil more but we switched quads and the result was the same . in a heads up race I would lose by 2 quads evertime threw 5 th gear . I did pull him from a 3rd gear punch but he would run me down in fifth . he does have the front fenders off. does that make that much of a differance?I knew it would be close I wasnt to dissapointed against the 05 but that 04 tore me up.

I was under the impression that the 06 was faster than the 04 also but I raced the 04 and he got me by 2 lenghts easy. He has the HRC kit with an LRD slipon and my 06 has HRC header pipe and HCS2 with airbox lid removed and jetted and I also went to a 14t front sprocket. I just don't get it.
