400 running funny

Well i rode my 400 around for 20 mins then about 6 hours later went to start and it kept making sounds like it was backfiring. Then it died i couldnt get it started it just kept turning over then started i gave a little gas and it died. I had to just feather it. But once it was warmed up it was fine. Dos anyone have any idea whats wrong? Maybe valves stickin cause i dont know. Its a 2004 got a pro circuit t 4 thats about it for motor mods

i had a small engine shop rejet a few months ago i think it has a 176 178 in it i also have a powerlid on it and k an air filter. The powerlid came with 170 jets so the hguy said i should use bigger cause of the pipe.

I was low on gas do you think that could be it why it was like backfiring?

deffinitly, even if theres some gas on the tank, chances are is not suckin up all the gas it should be
