would putting your front tires on opposite sides to make the front wider will hurt anything?

I don't think that will work, because the air nozzle will hit the brake calibur. You'll have to drill new holes and put them on the other side. Doesn't seem worth all the trouble!

also exposes your front brakes more to the elements

not speaking from exsperience read in mag stock a arms not made to take extra stress du to extra leverage and exsposes the brakes to harmsway

yep, more added stress. I wouldnt suggest doing that your bound to bend or snap something.

Yea i wouldn't flip them around, but i would buy some 3+2 offset rims for alil more width.

ive seen it done before. and like everyone said, on certain rims the valve stem will hit the calipers. the only things bad this does to your quad, is the calipers remain unprotected(they can be hit by something), and it puts excessive stress on one side of the front wheel bearings. so, if you dont mind changing one side of your front bearings occasionally and you dont care your calipers are unprotected, go for it.

i have done this on my old 300ex and had no problem what so ever and to make the valve stem not hit i took the cap off of them and put one washer on each wheel stud and it cleared the caliper

Or you can buy shorter valve stems and just replace them.
