Does anyone know if an 88/89 swing will fit a 87 250r. Also, was there a length change between those years. Thanks.

The 88/89 swingarm is shorter than the 86/87 by a little more than an inch. Alot of people tend to like the 88/89 length swingarm, especialy for racing, because it transfers power to the ground better.

Yes the 88/89 swingarm will bolt right up to your 87 frame, everything else will just bolt up too, carrier, linkage, etc. But if you do put an 88/89 swingarm on your 87 you are now eliminating 2 mounting points for the motor. You will need to ether weld some mounts to the bottom rear of the frame, right in front of the linkage mount. Or you will need to fab up a crossmember to go across the rear of the frame, about 4 inches above the pivot bolt mounts, and then weld a couple tabs for the motor mount onto that. The crossmember is how the 88/89 frames are.

I just did this mod to my 87, welded motor mounts for the lower rear. Shortened the 88 swinger also.

This is one of the easier mods to do on a 86-87 TRX ! I have done this many times with no problems !

Just make sure the front, front lower and headstay mounts are bolted to the engine when the rear lower mount is welded to the frame. If not you'll end up with a frankenstein that will look like my old frame.

The idiot that modified my old frame obviously did not have the headstay connected and the front mounts were either loose or not connected when the IDIOT did the welding. The previous owner of my frame supposedly raced for many years with a crooked motor:eek2:

Nasty pics of my old frame can be found here (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=147992). I had to use some creative thinking to get the motor bolts in.
