I just got back from riding adn when iw as on my way home i started hearing a tickin noise in my engine. I heard it when it was in 2nd gear adn 1st gear orjust sitting and ideling.


What could be causing this sound?

Sounds like you need to adjust the valves, or your header pipe is loose and air is leaking from around the seal.

Could be the valves need adjusted, or a stretched timing chain banging on the case.

How do i got about adjusting the valves?


How mouch would it cost to hvae somone do it?

Valve adjustment on the 400 is very simple. Check the EX Tech section of this website for step by step instructions.

its th valves or chain makin lil ticking noises from hiting the chain sliders.

my friends 300 made the same sound when he was riding. the cam shaft sproket was loose, fell off and destroyed the timing chain and the camshaft. all he did is not use lock tite on the sprokets bolts.:(

ya just to get one thing out of the way u shouldinspect the valves(see if their set rite) and if thats not the problem move on to ur nextguess.

WELL YOU NEED TO TAKE OFF ALL OF YOUR PLASTIC...AND THEN TAKE OFF YOUR GAS TANK AND YOU NEED TO HAVE AN ALLEN WRENCH AND YOU HAVE TO TURN SOMETHING.....ILL HAVE MORE INFO....I JUST HAD TO DO THIS LATELY BUT ILL HAVE TO LOOK AND REMEMBER WHAT I HAD TO TURN...LOL WELL....LATER:D :confused: :rolleyes:

umm I'm guessing you really need your valves adjusted seeing you have pry had it for a long time with all the mods you have.

I was also wondering if it is normal to have you valves adjusted when you hvae some mods for awhile?

Hey my 416 does it too...i ended up callin pro fab and they said i was using the wrong mark to adjust my valves and it could have been screwing it up...i hope its ok im gonna adjust them right tommarow
