400EX shocks on a 450R?

I am looking into getting front and rear Elka shocks for my 400EX. Unfortunately, as most everyone is aware, they are really expensive. The set I am looking at is more than I really wanted to spend on my 400, so I was wondering, will 400EX shocks fit on a 450R, since I am looking to get one next year? I know that you have to grind the top of the shock off to make a 450 shock fit on a 400, but what about the other way around? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

my friend had his 450r shocks sent off one time and I let him borrow my stockers until he got his back and they fit

I have seen them fit but the valving could be diferent. I would sugest buying a used set for your 400 then next year or when ever you get your 450r sell them put the 400 back to stock and buy a good set for your new quad.If you buy used then there is less loss when you go to sell them.

Thanks for the opinions. I have rethought my ideas anyways. I am just going to do a less expensive set of Elka's on my 400, cause for the trail-type riding that I do, the setup I was thinking of was way overkill. That way too I save some money so that I can get a 450R or whatever down the road.

BTW... The "standard travel" Elka shocks on my 400 are noticeably shorter in length than the stock 450R shocks.

I was going to swap the shocks until I noticed that.

BTW... My advise is for you to save up for the 450R rather than putting the money into the 400.:D :macho

they fit but are WAAAAY soft. you will def. damage them unless you get them revalved and a larger shaft installed. heres my works off my 400ex. they blew shortly after some normal riding on my 450r
