Well, at the end of this year, I will more than likly be upgrading to a bigger quad from my 300ex. Now the question is what to get. Im about 5'10" and weight 140. I am a very aggressive rider and not afraid to get muddy. Oh, I will also be racing harescrambles (XC) up in D-6.

I want a 250r, but my "mechanic" says that I should get one of the newer generation quads. (one of the 450's or predator)

So what I should i got with. Remember, I am only 16 so money will be a problem, before I get some moeny from my 300ex when I sell it.

if you going to do mostly XC i would consider 450r or pred, or maybe the new outlaw

you'll need a couple bucks to own/maintain a 450....

thats what I mean. Its hard to get one for like 2500 or 3000. you can get a 250r for like the 2500-3000 range.

The outlaw is out of the question. I Just dont like them.

i think a predator would be nice... the 450s are very histrung and there maintenance hungry (from what i've observed) but you would definately enjoy a predator- stock they are pretty damn fast and fun.

i don't see what's wrong with a 250r. if you want one, go for it.

i really dont think I will go new.

Im only 16, I go to college in 2 years and thats going to cost enough.lol

How does a 250r do in mud. Are the cheap to mod? I prob will only do some nice Suspension but would like to know how much all the performance parts will cost.

Also, will it take a while to get used to a 4 stroke to a 2 stroke?

I think ur " mechanic" wants you to get a newer 4 stroke so when the time comes to rebuild he gets major Moola:devil:

Get the 450R for XC.

this might sound dumb but whats wrong with the good ole 400ex?

or just a z or kfx in general...? or do the 450s and 250rs and 400s run in the same class?

I'd get a 450r they're not that hard to maintain, after all it is a HONDA:blah:

he has a really good point, theres not as much motor needed in XC as there is in MX, its alot of rider, not saying there is no skill to MX, but anyone can be competitive in XC with minimal mods if your good enough so, you can be competitive with a 400 like the Z/KFX or the EX, they are all very good quads

i will be racing in an open class, so its a anything goes class.

My "mechanic" doesnt charge me any thing because i am always there working with him. He is also a good family friend.

In the A class (expert) there are like 3 450r's 3 yfz's and like 3 250r's. Everytime a 450r wins, but that is because Chris Borich is racing.

I'd def. go with the 250r. Dont let anyone decide for you,get what you rather. I listened to everyone else and got something i didn't want and now I regret it,so now im still working toward a 250r. w.e you get, good luck

if you are tight on money I would go with a kfx or Z 400 it is newer generation quad but I think it is reliable more than the 450's anyway and the fact that you race XC and are not afraid to get muddy I would most deffinateley go with a 4-stroke

Amazingly (I hate Polaris), I have to say go with the Predator. They have great smooth power and the ride is awesome on them. I believe they are perfectly set up for XC as the suspension works great for riding woods and the gearing seems to work perfectly (At least the '03 did) for trails. I would get a newer year as they upgraded the transmission and gearing as they were having some issues with shifting on the first year. Also the reverse on the newer years should be nice, as the Predator is a heavy-weight.
