ok so i jus got an 02 400ex i like it alot but i wanan make it alot better. i went to my first track yesterday n it was sick as hell... so this is my "project..i already have nerfs, rentals ,bumper razors in the back, and a uni air filter....my idea is to get a good slip on silencer..silver meiairs..maybe quadtech hoods...trail techs..decent but cheap shocks..high clearance a-arms.air scoops..and maybe skids..now this is all an idea n its deff. not pratical..but tell me wat u think or if ur sellin any good parts

blah!!... why spend money on new plastic while yours is fine?? Just give the front and back a lil trim and they will be good.

Spend the money on a Hotcam before you get plastics and maybe a wiseco piston.

i would skip the plastics and lights and get a new swing arm and back shock to go with the fronts.

Also a new axle and id also say go with some engine work before doing fenders and lights.

The order to go in...
suspension, engine, looks.
If your on a "budget" you can pick up a set of 450R front shocks, then get a higher compression ratio piston (even stock bore) and put in a Hotcams Stage 1 cam.

I agree with what the others are saying. I am not too crazy about Hotcams though, but it is a pretty decent cam for a budget rider ( Will work well for you).

The right thing to do in this situation is just buy a used 450 or a used z400 and start from there..modifying a 400ex to race is a pointless cause....jump to the 21 century and buy something besides a honda 400ex

You can race with the 400 still and be competative, but you are correct that the new quad technology has far surpassed the 400ex. But it still can't be beat as the best all around quad...

So if you're serious about racing then i would most definetly jump to one of the 450s. But if its an all around quad, a little bit of racing, trail riding, and other things, then I would hang onto it..

yup..if u r serious about racing start with something a little more updated...i started with a kfx 400 and its been draining me of cash

mike your a trail rider..get a nice slip on, new front tires, handgaurds, and maybe 450r shocks but there arent any jumps around montville that you need them for
