whats up guys I'm pretty new to this quad stuff.I have a stock 03 400ex.I'm going to start setting it up for gncc's and mid south races. Its going to be a long prossess[sp] but oh well.I figure I'll start with the handling ,then get into the motor later.Well besides the pipe and jet kit ect.
My question is whats a good with for the after market a-arms plus 1 or 2 inches.2 seems wide but the bike is narrow.also is the axel and swing arm good are should i can those too?thanks

jon

ps.i'm open to all set up options,like I said I'm new to this.Oh I'm 6'2 220lbs

I've never raced gncc but I think everyone is running stock width. I've also seen people run stock arms just with aftermarket suspension. As for the rear end, I would keep it the way it is. I would just get a set of front shocks and have your rear shock revalved. You should look into geting a set of TCS fronts and have them rebuild your rear shock.

Maybe add an inch.

I would get +1 A-arms and 4+1 offset Hipers:macho As for the rear end the axle and swingarm are fine, if it wheelies to much for your liking then I would get a longer swingarm. I would get a new linkage and shocks all the way around, I like Custom Axis and GT Thunder.

Start with shocks, and a good set of tires. Most people run stock, or within about and inch or so of the stock width. Axis shocks are the best IMO. But if your on a budget then look into the upper range Works shocks, or Elka's economy shocks. If you decide to go aftermarket with the a arms, get +1's. That will make your quad a total of 2 inches wider, 1 inch on each side. Then get 4-1 offset rims, and you will then only be 1 inch wider than stock.

Am i missing something here, wouldnt that be right back at stock width.
+1 arms both sides = +2 wider
4/1 offset rims on front (-1" from stock rims)=-2 wider

2-2=0

Im running +2s with 4/1 offset to get teh width i need

I believe stock 400ex wheels are offset like 3.5/1.5. So with the 4/1 wheels you will be an inch narrower (-.5 per side). So with the +1 a-arms and 4/1 wheels, you will be an inch wider than stock like the TheFontMaster stated. If you have shocks that sag or are a zps style your quad will be wider depending on what you have the ride height set at.
