Do you have the air box lid on or off? What dose your spark plug look like, you want a nice brown color. Do you have any motor mods? High comp head mod? Lots of veriables with jetting, start rich and work your way down.

dropped down to a 148 wit hair box lid on no problems no missing backfiring etc.

but this pinging from the motor is scaring me any ideas in my opinion it need a top end rebuild cause it has been awhile since its had one

sounds like detonation, try using a fuel with more octane...

Don't go down on the jetting any more your going to blow it. Put a new plug in with a gap set at .018 with a 162 main. If it runs good, bump the main up some more. Sounds like you have a weak spark and now you have leaned it out so much that you have a detonation problem.

I would get a b8es or even a b9es. The b7es is a hotter plug and could be causing the detonation.

im with him- i run the b8es in my bike.... 148 sounds pretty lean... where are you at, whats the altitude and whats your weather like?

also, you said you got gas somewhere cuz it was cheaper... i'm not sure what "sunoce" is, unless you were talking about sonoco... but i'm not familiar with sunoco making 94, usually they make 110... anywho... just cuz it says 87, or 91, or 93 at all places, doesnt mean they are all the same gas... make sure you are getting it from a good place, like chevron for example. i have an old 70 chevy pickup, and when i use chevron 87 it runs like a champ... however, when i use safeway 87, the thing pings like crazy and runs like crap. point being, always make sure youre getting some qualtiy fuel...

i'd say deffinately get the right plug in there...

and i think as the numbers go up, the plug gets hotter, i could be wrong, im sure someone will clear it up.

i've always ran br8es or b8es NGK Plugs in my R.

You might want to check your electrical, sometimes cutting out like that can be caused by electrical problems. You might have a wire broke inside the insulation that covers it,this is extremly difficult to find so if you can't figure it out through jetting this may be your problem.Just tryin to help.

The jetting sounds awfully lean too me, 148 is small. Where are you located and what is your altitude? Also do like jon370 said and gap your plug to .018. The smaller the number on the plug the hotter it is. I would recommend a B8ES and if you are running lights BR8ES.

ok got my jets in

162 with B8ES plug ran for about 5 mintues died tried again smae hting over and over went back to 155 which was my starting point with the fmf pipe no better or worse my question is cna it be in the air screw and needle valve and which way do you turn the choke nob to increase the idle speed

thanks if anyone on here has the trx 6 i want to know your jetting and clip positions to get a starting point

yes the sunoco is what i meant and ours has 94 i usually run 93 circle k but never liked it well in my r so i thought i would try this and it was cheaper to

looking down on hte carb its counter clockwise to raise the idle. check your electrical connections. br8es or br8ev or br8eg .028 gap (recommended resistor plugs are for radio/ignition electricals, voltage regulator is for the lights). check spark plug cap connection, twist it on the coil wire. tighten all carb clamps. take compression check anything less than 160 lbs tells you it new top end time. exchange cdi box with a friends, try the coil also then the stator. make sure air filter is clean. take radiator cap off smell the coolant if smells like exhaust head gasket leak. leak down test? mix gas at 32:1 4oz oil to one gal gas. clean gas tank fuel strainer. that is all i could think of good luck

ok i started checking my electrical tonight and there isnt any reading coming from the two connectors on the coil but when i hook it up and put one end on the plug and one grounded it read about 0.50 whats the deal with that it will only runs for a few seconds even if i keep the gas on or let it idle but even if the jetting was off it owuld still run good or bad correct? and can it be the coil isnt producing the required spark and it lets it die and does anyone have any idea on the jetting
any help is appreciated and what good does it do t odo a compression test if it runs somewhat the engine has around 25 to 30 hrs

Check the reeds... My bike did kinda the same thing and one of my reeds were broken. I changed EVERYTHING before I found it. LOL
